My 09 Tacoma V6 Maintenance light has come on. I checked the oil, it was low so I added about a 1/2. The light is still on. I had the oil changed back in the summer. I have 32,000 mi on it & all maintenance done by a Toyota Authorized Dealer. Last oil change was back in the summer. Is there a sensor or something that perhaps didn't get reset? This light has never come on before, I don't drive the hell out of my truck. The 3yr service was done last Dec. the only thing not done was plug replacement. What is the reason for the light to come on?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Could you be due for maintenance just by the light being on(by the computer)? That's the only thing that I can think of. If it wasn't reset then it would have stayed on since the summer.

That maintenance light will come on every 5000 miles to let you know it is time for an oil change. Your owner's manual will tell you how to reset it for another 5K.

OP. Sounds like you've put 5k miles on the truck since your last scheduled maintenance. Did the light start flashing only upon start up, and then eventually remain on? That's normal. It's reminding you that every 5k you need to change your oil, not just add a quart.

Oil is changed every 6 months, required maintenance by Toyota has been done on a scheduled basis by a Toyota Dealer. Toyota has a record of all work done on the truck. I only have 32,000 mi & am the original owner, only driven by me & my wife.

This is the 1st time the light has ever come on. It's never come on before. I added a 1/2 qt due to it was a little low.

Doesn't matter if it hasn't been 6 months. That's for the guys who don't drive 5k miles in 6 months. You've put at least 5k miles since your last oil change (per your previous posts). Your trucks reminding you to change it.

Tom, it's time to have the oil changed. No biggy they will reset it. I'm getting ready to go in for 55000 mile service. My light starts flashing at about 500 miles from time to have it serviced , and moves to being on all the time.

The maintenance light comes on at 4500 and just blinks. It will stay on at 5000. If you had service at 28k and now at 32k you have most likely hit your 4500 mark. Go get the oil changed and have them reset it.

Also if you're changing your oil your self reset is as follows.

    Turn truck on.
Change odometer from trip to actual odo. (Not trip a or b)
    Turn truck off.
Push and hold odometer reset to the right of the speedometer where your fuel gauge is.
Turn key on while holding reset button in.
Wait for all the dash marks to dissappear and turn off truck.
Start truck to ensure completion of reset.

    Enjoy.

Probably because you've always taken it in before 4500 miles.

At 4500 miles, the light will flash on startup for a few seconds, then at 5000 it comes on solid.

You had it serviced at 28000 and it's at 32000 now? Seems like it came on 1000 too early... or maybe you had it serviced at 27000 (it should have been serviced at 5/10/15/20/25/30).
