Maintenance on Icon Delta Joints UCSa

Thanks for the help! I loosened them and worked a lot better. Spaced that one. If the oil only comes out on the outside busing on each arm is that ok? Spun the bolt a few times as well. Still only came out the outer bushings

 

That was normal for me. I mistankingly over greased mine because of that. Doesn’t take much pumps

 

Do your UCAs make a slight clunky sound when going over speed bumps? I thought it was because they needed grease. Today I greased them again, but this time with Super Lube. The clunky sound is still there. It could be the sway bar. Any thoughts?

 

Try to replicate it with the front of your truck jacked up, have someone use a pry bar or such and pry up from under the tire in a quick sudden motion. Mine was a loose UCA nut for the through bolt

 

Thanks! I'll check it again, but I just finished greasing the UCA through bolt and nut. I don't think its that though because I torqued them on both sides.

 

my sway bar did cause a clunk sound. I removed mine and that sound went away. But It only happened messing around on trails where I was getting full suspension motion.

 

Anyone having a hard time greasing the Deltas? I have the low profile needle zerc, and I can feel it move when I push down, but I can't get any oil to go through. Just keeps coming out the top. Suggestions?

 

Did yours come with the standard zerks? I couldn't get the needle zerks to work right. I finally gave up and swapped them for the standard zerks.

 

Nope.. they came with the weird low profile ones and I can't get them to work either. I'm going to switch them out for regular

 

I've had mine on for about 11k now, havent regreased yet lol. About to take a week long trip camping, will definitely look into it though

 

If u have the odd low profile zercs, I recommend switching them to regular. Work WAY better, easier, and don't get clogged w dirt.

 

So I broke one of the tips for the zerk fittings with a crap grease gun. Only had non-tapered fittings at the time so it leaked slowly. Finally got some from Amazon delivered, only to have them be mislabeled. So I put another non-tapered.

Does any one know the exact specs of the fittings that come with the tubular? From what I've found, it's a tapered 6mm x 1, but I'm not sure of the thread pitch. I already think I damaged the tapered hole on the UCA by using the straight fittings, so any suggestions are appreciated to avoid any further damage.

Tapered 6mm x 1 from Napa worked for me.

 

I literally bought regular ball fittings in the small size on Amazon, threaded them in, and it worked great. Now greasing my DJ's is easy

 

Im about 5k miles on my icon UCAs and have a faint squeak with the windows down, time to get some grease in ‘em. What torque needs to be placed on the UCA bolt? Anyone know the spec? Does the ole German gudentite apply here?

 

Some follow up here, the looseness ended up being one of the poly bushings getting worn. For some reason I was expecting play at the delta joint but it ended up being a bushing.

I took the arms off and replaced the bushings and pressed in new Delta Joints. But I could've easily left the delta joints alone, they were still snug

And don't slack off on greasing like I did. A couple months after the second set of poly bushings got installed I had a persistent squeak. Sounded like my God awful Dakars in the rear but it wasn't coming from there. I even replaced the front frame rail/apron mount bushings, they were worn through to the bolt but it still didn't fix the squeak.. I shot a little more grease into the UCA bushings and the noise went away

I change out from the needle to regular zerks for greasing... like to have the cover plate on for protection from rust/dirt.
I tried a few different auto store and online 6mm standard zerks... all were a loose fit. Ended up getting them straight from Icon. Even then when threading the zerks it seems there's only about 3 or 4 threads... very easy to strip. For less stress on the fittings i ended up getting the locknlube coulper... short one for the delta joint and the longer version for access to the pivot bolt zerks.
