The advice to check the manual is the fine because it's not always the same. @EatSleepTacos's procedure is different than mine, I start from the mileage position on the odometer, not trip A. That's why I gave the advice I did. Someone searching this thread with an older 2nd gen wouldn't have known that.

We'll then you were being helpful too, I can't quote and comment on everyone's posts. Some people, like me do not have the manual though.

Toyota will sell them to you directly, if you have a lot of cash you need laundered anyway. I actually bought the FSM for my 1991 when I got it from my dealer and it was reasonable at the time (2000). Since then I always watch for them used. The set for my 2008 was about $1,000 if you got them from Toyota directly. No f'n way.

    And eBay.

If you have good Google Fu there are PDF copies that exist or you can just buy a CD with the electronic manuals.

Also try to find a copy of the EPC, Toyota's Electronic Parts Catalog. This is the searchable database the dealer uses to find parts. The newest ones I'm aware of are 2013. Talk about a clunky interface, straight out of 1992. But the diagrams are invaluable. This will very likely be a torrent.

    I wanted an MT.
What to do when the light will not go off? Mine came one like normal the other day, had my oil changed, went to trip the light like I have every other time and it simply will not go off...

It's not the check engine light? Maybe if you disconnected the battery for a little bit, that would reset it.

No, it isn't the check engine light... I never had a problem in either of my Tacoma's to get the light off...I disconnected the battery the other day for a while... it's still on... its aggregating.

On my 18 the light was on for a while then it started beeping and wouldn’t stop. So I bit the bullet and reached for the army manual in my glovebox ( 2,864 pages ). Scroll left or right on dash menu to the settings ( the little gear )hit center button then up or down and you will see reset maintenance- yes or no - if you don’t like the smoke detector hit yes. Problem solved until next time.
