so the truck says “maintenance required”... Carista doesn’t detect any codes. What is likely the problem? Bad oil filter? Bad air filter? Truck seems to run fine, except a faint rattle/hum when the AC is on.

Nothing bad, just that a 5k maintenance is coming up.

You can have Trip A on, turn the truck off, hold the trip button down when you turn the truck on but not start the engine. This will clear the indicator. DO NOT skip the maintenance.

First it blinks after start at 4500 then stays on after start at 5k.

It took him 2 minutes to get his answer here. Probably would have taken longer to walk to his truck to get the manual.

To be fair, I just assumed it was Toyota’s way of tricking me into paying a service center... call me a cynic...

Well, free as in you don't have to pay at that time. Which means we all pre paid when we bought the truck.

Tire rotation and just a quick once over. The first oil change is at 10000 miles.

Every 5k, inspection, tires off measure brakes and rotate tires. Fluids and filters etc.

Every 10k, same thing but oil change as well.

If its the first 6 month/5k service, its a tire rotation and check your floor mats. They may look at your oil level and washer fluid level.

Depends on the mileage. Tire rotations every 5k, oil changes every 10k, other regular maintenance. The warning comes on 5k miles after each service and you just clear it yourself if you're doing your own maintenance. There's a maintenance manual in your truck that says exactly what needs to be done at how many miles, and you can download a digital copy on Toyota's website.

Thanks for the sign, ST. It'll come in handy !

My wife may be the most resistant to read the owners manual person that there is. She still occasionally comes up with a how does this work question for her 2018 Camry. This always ends with me looking it up in the owners manual for her.

I do this to keep her happy. If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy.

As a side note, something I have done recently with my '18 bike, my '17 Taco, and my wife's '19 Highlander is get digital PDF versions of the manual and throw them on my Google Drive so I have them anywhere. That way you can just search for a word or phrase, and find info relatively quickly. I haven't even unsealed the manual in my truck.
