So at the same time that I’m doing the cover I thought it would be a good time replace my gear set to a 4.88 . So my question is this I purchased the bushing to replace the needle bearing but the guy doing the install , installed the bushing on the wrong side. So I had to order another one to put on the other side. What do you guys think? Will it be ok with both needle bearings removed from both sides? I mean it’s just like the bearing but solid. I’m willing to test it as I have no choice as the bearing is back ordered . Anyway here are some pics of the oil leak

Hey, at least it's just the cover. Timing jobs suck. Especially if you've ever owned a Triton - then it's 3 or 4 timing jobs suck ;)

Unsure about the needle bearings though. I have gears on the way but am not very familiar with the needle bearing mod yet. I do plan on doing both the same time though. Sorry I can't help there, but subbing to stay in the know.

Honestly it’s a huge job. Tons of bolts , and removing the harness without damaging the clips is very hard, doable but hard. I’m kinda happy about it because I get to go thru the truck and replace everything that needs to be done as far as scheduled maintenance. Water pump was showing signs of a leak, plugs needed to be replaced . Flushed all fluids , alignment afterwards . A huge huge job . I can’t believe it only pays 16 hours warranty for a tech .

As to the needle bearing question I would call and ask ECGS. They would be the best to ask whether or not changing both sides is advisable.

The needle bearing is only on the drivers side. The passenger side is a ball bearing. It is completely different and not interchangeable. This is from there webpage. 20220201_172348.jpg

You are a brave soul to attempt that job. I will be looking for the 'no leaks' confirmation when you are done thou.

I've had both of those things done. Timing cover was leaking like mad all over the power steering pump at 65k, common for 2016. Cost $2500 at dealer. Did tons of work and took over a week. They actually resealed everything on the engine that uses the fipg sealant. That was nice and new coolant, freon & power steering fluid. They removed everything to get in there and it's been perfect for the last 5k... On the ecgs bushing, I put on a 3" lift and the old bearing was humming like mad. "4 wheel parts" had the last bushing in town and put it in for $350 in a couple hours, on the correct side thank God! Hope it goes well for you.
