The story said traffic had stopped on I-45, about midway between Houston and Dallas. The driver of an 18 wheeler struck a Toyota Camry from behind and pushed it in to a Toyota Tacoma, which in turn struck an unidentified vehicle, in front of the Tacoma.

The miraculous thing is the drivers of the Tacoma and the Camry, walked away without any injuries!! The Tacoma is easy to pick out. I wouldn’t know the other twisted heap was a Camry, if the article didn’t identify it as such.

I just don’t see how the person in the Camry walked away. The Tacoma held up pretty well, even though it’s obviously a total loss.

I know Toyotas are tough, well made vehicles, but darn!!! Im just glad those people lived to tell about it.

If they had passengers in the back seat, it would be a whole different story.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Jesus. If only our road system was built to keep commercial and passenger vehicles separated some how.

I have a place in atlanta. Reminds me when I saw a car full of a family get smashed right next to me by an big rig, it was truly the most horrific thing I have witnessed.

Glad the people walked out of there. I was hit by a 17yr old girl driving a Tahoe on my motorcycle.
Bike was torn into 2 pieces, I walked away from it, but only because it’s wasn’t my time to go.

Would love a separate highway for trucks only, driving truck would definitely be easier. NJ does have a part of I95 that has truck lanes only, but for some stupid reason the cars still insist on using the truck lanes.

Its the same in connecticut where we have car pool lanes on i-84 and 95, but cars with a single driver keep using them.:frusty:

When I first got my truck and started working on it, I was kind of pissed at how cheap it looked - especially around the front end.
Then I started seeing accident photos of how the truck absorbed impacts and folded, and I quickly understood Toyota's reasoning.

Accidents like that are also why I won't put in any aftermarket seats that require me to bypass the airbags.

Zoo. Just remember most laws only pertain to those who can read and comprehend above a kindergarten level. Besides a few of my law enforcement friends contend that 69% of all drivers are terrible at best and absolutely dangerous at worst.

yeah, 3rd gens are pretty tough. Toyota did a lot of work on the cab strength for the 3rd gen and it appears to have paid off.

I don't understand how anyone walked away from that camry.

Like most other drivers, Semi truck drivers are no longer the quality they use to be. I am sure everyone has heard of the semi driver that killed a bunch of drivers in Denver a few years ago. I was on that highway going in the other direction 2 miles away, when it happened. The dude below was live streaming when the semi rolled past him at 80mph prior to plowing into an entire highway full of stopped cars. Sad part is that the semi driver was already losing control at a point where he could have taken a runaway ramp.

Very lucky for all those involved to be able to walk away from such a large accident.

They were real bad in in new jersey back in the day going to college there. Imo, its gotten bad everywhere we have large population centers. I swear many drivers got their license from a mail order catalog.

I recently got rear ended, I was stopped and the offender blasted into me going 60(on phone) never even saw me. Was in a 00 taco TRD. The amount of force I was hit with was incredible as his frame hooked into my left rear frame tail. Do very lil "give" happened And to avoid getting knocked into a flagger just in front of me I pulled wheel to right, was on bridge with no shoulder so also got smashed into the wall.

Now the first gens frame was beefier (as in was a full 4 sided tube) and the 3rd gen I have now is only 3 sides (a "c") but it bent my frame up about 20 some inches, accordion a section and ripped it halfway up at the bend. Had hitch attached so was heavily reinforced as well . Sides broken ribs and whiplash I'm fine. I was impressed how my truck held up, especially as it was so old.

If the 3rd gens are at least close to as strong frame wise, I can only imagine what happened to make it look like the pic posted...I think it's a testament to Toyota taking safety seriously and doing a good job if those 2 walked away and I know I have a whole new reason to love Toyotas after my wreck.

I limped away from this. Rear ended by a fully loaded semi doing 50mph. Compared to my dealings with the police, insurance companies and US legal system following this incident, the wreck impact felt like a full body massage by six naked women.
