That's cool. Though I think the op is looking for a stock comparison and not an involved modified comparison.

    You need to try both!
Only way 2 know for sure.

I love my manual. But when I get another something....I will automatic.
Although driving the manual transmission is a blast every day in the dirt or on the concrete towing it excels against the automatic cuz you can choose when to shift! it's just too much of a pain in the ass in all this fucking traffic around here. In the end.
Good luck and try both of them.
And always reference your manual when having questions on whatever you choose to buy!

I think its funny to see how many guys gravitate to this truck from a GTI. What gives?

GTIs and WRXs seem to both be insanely popular among the 'young engineer' crowd. I can't speak for other people, but I just wanted to get a truck and it's really hard to find a truck that isn't a base model that has a manual transmission, which was a must-have for me. So the Tacoma was an easy choice for me.

Factory stuff so far. Mud flaps, tow package, weather mats, bed mat.
Hard to get anyone in my household to drive an auto. So finding the configuration of a double cab, excellent suspension with what I consider very good road handling, quiet ride and a 6MT sealed the deal for me during the test drive.
In the back of my mind I'm thinking there's a good chance MT's are not going to be available much longer. This could be one of the last chances.

    few points from me:

    1. If the Tacoma TRD trim didn't offer a manual I would have not purchased a Tacoma. Other makes offer stick but it's the most basic model.

    2. It should be illegal to sell automatic transmissions on a pickup.

    3. If I got a dollar for every time someone said this I'd be a rich man: "I'd get a manual but my wife doesn't know how to drive it"

    4. If you chose your truck based on whether your wife can use it to pick up diapers and groceries then you need to get your man card revoked ASAP.

    5. Teach your wife to drive a manual - problem solved.

Taught my wife to drive when I met her, she hates automatics, not enough for her to do.

The M/T dick swinging club is so hilarious to me.

Having owned north of 30 vehicles and most of them being manual, I can say with certainty you aren't better than anyone. No one gives a shit that you drive one.

I'm glad you have something to make you feel like a superior man, I'm sorry it's a transmission.

I don't really think it's unreasonable to make sure everyone in your household can drive all vehicles available in case of emergencies or otherwise.

Believe it or not, some people respect their wives enough to make some sacrifices for them.

How TF have you owned north of 30 vehicles? Independently wealthy?

I'm not trying to be cool. I've never owned an automatic car and I've had about 15 cars thus far. There is nothing wrong with teaching the wife/girlfriend/kids to drive stick so then there are no more excuses. Every one of my girlfriends, including current one, was taught to drive stick by me. I didn't force them, they agreed to it when I made the recommendation.

I don't get why so many people get all ruffled up when people mention manual vs automatic. It's a forum, we all share opinions. And in my opinion a pickup truck should be a manual --- it's a pickup truck.

Because you're trying to pass off your purely anecdotal opinion as a fact that we need to follow or else we're not "men".

I would definitely imagine there some kind of "truckin it" vibe slammin gears in a taco. Especially if you're towing or hauling something of noticeable weight.
