i don't find this to be nearly as annoying as the high pitched screech the truck makes if you push the lock button on the remote when one of the doors is open.

This is the only reason I would want to disable the auto lock feature. Other than that, I think it is a good idea. You just need to get used to it.

And those of you that don't have this feature, the most common reason is aftermarket (and even "toyota brand") remote start and alarm systems. If you're 100% certain that your truck doesn't have any of those, then I suggest you read up in your manual. That way we can confirm yes or no as to whether there was a change after a certain model year.

The remote is not an indicator of the existance of an alarm. It's simply part of the keyless entry system included with various vehicle packages. However, if you also purchased an OEM alarm, the keyless entry system (controlled by that remote) is used to enable or disable the alarm.

If you didn't purchase the vehicle new and are unsure what was included, you can do a simple test (described to me by another in this forum) to see if the OEM alarm is present and working. Roll down the drivers door window, close the door, lock door with the remote, wait 60 seconds (30 seconds is the typical delay), and open the door using either interior or exterior handle. If the vehicle horn immediate activates, you have an alarm. If not, no alarm is present or the alarm is defective. By the way, unlocking the door (with remote or key) will silence the horn.

The leyless entry system (door lock system) on my truck is entirely stock. I recently added the Toyota VIP RS3200 Plus security/alarm system. In both cases (alarm or no alarm), the behavior of the door locks are exactly the same - doors do not lock automatically; I must lock them myself using key or remote. I clearly prefer this behavior.

OP didn't ask for advice on how to change his lifestyle. The question was how to change the auto-relock feature. No offense whipper, but if that's what the OP wants to know, and you don't know the answer, stay away?

My 09 auto relocks and I always found it annoying. Could be a setting the dealer can change. Some cars I have owned have multiple lock/unlock settings you can have the dealer set for you (unlock one door, unlock all doors, unlock trunk, lights beep, not beep etc. ), maybe the Taco is similar?

i like it. i un lock it when i’m no more than 10 feet from it. gives me time to get to the truck and open with out it re-locking. or Bi**pulling. lol. i have not had the truck lock the keys in it self yet. but i try not to set them down in side and close the doors. i know dad’s 2000 tundra will lock them inside. last spring before i got my truck we took it to moms work so it would not get hit with hail. and it was in a locked building so i guess mom left the keys in it and the truck locked it self. lol

I live in a condo. I hit the unlock button, grab my stuff, and when I get to my truck the doors lock. Now my hands are full and the doors are locked. It's annoying.

I also have a dynolock, thank's Forum, and if I open the gate but not the doors...you guessed it, everything locks.

I have a 2012 DCLB TRD Sport, and it relocks if I don't open a door. I just installed the electric Pop&Lock, so I can see where I might get tired of unlocking my doors to unlock my tailgate, then needing to unlock my doors again to get in.

mehhh makes for a good workout for me. Coming out the grocery store with both hands tied up with bags of groceries, as soon as I get my receipt from the cashier I hit the unlock and bolt straight for the truck. Never once has it locked on me. Shopping carts are overrated.

Generally, I think whippersnapper is a jerk with his replies, but this time I have to agree. What are you doing? Diffusing a bomb?

My 2008 has never locked me out. As far as the auto doors after 30 seconds, mine does this too. Annoying when your trying to get kids and groceries in the truck. I don't think the car will lock itself with the remote inside? I would try it but I only have one remote and key....:(

It is impossible by design to lock the driver's door with the key in the ignition. The same can't be said for simple proximity to the ignition. The key has to actually be in it.

Ask me how I know

My 2012 SCAB TRD most definitely relocks automatically. It's a real PITA.

You're so smart, how do you push a button when your hands are full?

I'm a teacher and a coach. I walk out with coffee, breakfast, lunch, stuff for school, and my stuff to change into for football. I try to unlock the truck, grab all my crap, run down the stairs, get to my truck and open the first door I reach. When it locks I have to put 3 or 4 things down to free up a hand to push a button.

Thanks for the tough love, it really made me a better person.
