I am thinking about getting another tacoma. I bought one in 2013 because I loved the rock solid reliability of the tacomas and the look. I bought a 2013 SR5 without doing any real research as to what I liked about the looks of the tacoma. In reality, what I really liked was the TRD sport package with the scoop and color matched accessories. I also missed out on some nice features of the touch screen as mine was just basic radio/bluetooth. So I will not make that mistake again!

Alright, so fast forward to now. I ended up trading my 2013 tacoma for a 2014 Taurus and i am loosing some money on it devaluing quicker than payments (the big mistake I made thinking all vehicles would hold value like my tacoma lol).

I did not like the 2016 at all, AT FIRST. I have driven by the dealership and they get them in and sell them almost immediately. The blazing blue pearl has caught my eye and I went down to the dealership to inquire about one. Most of the blazing blue TRD sports double cabs were in the $37-39k range when they looked them up. Just a few days ago they got this double cab TRD Sport in for $36,139. I was tempted to trade in and get it that day but I am going to do my research this time.

I went to a full size sedan and hate how low it is, I miss having the truck bed etc.

My goal is to pick one up by the end of the year, if it's late enough in the year I will grab a 2017 (might as well). But I have a lot of research to do to make sure these are as bullet proof as the previous ones, have their issues worked out (I would assume they do if they changed a 10 year old engine for a new one, etc..) I already have my first mod planned, retrofitting the lights obviously...

If you have any quick input to help or hinder my decision, let me know. I don't have much time on my hands to go through all these threads that have already been made about the 3rd gen, all the new goodies and features, the modifications that can be done and whatnot.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to get back to posting on here!

Do you need to know, or care?
I had a 2013 too and at first hated the new look of the 2016...LOL...now own one and love it. I sometimes drive the wife's Mazda 3 around and totally get the up high view of the road ahead. Would never buy anything but a truck just for the view, but I do use the bed on a regular basis going to dump or dropping off cuttings around the yard. Kind of the same mind-set as you, wait for the first year to work out bugs, but this time couldn't wait any longer, had to have it NOW!

How much longer until you get positive equity in your Ford? If you're playing the waiting game, you might as well wait until then and it will give Toyota time to sort out the kinks and the buy craze time to die down. As far as what you want in the truck? Use the build site on the Toyita website to see what they offer, stop by a dealership and pick up a brochure. Make a list of everything you want in your truck and the mods you'll want to do, including the Twizler dispenser in the roof. Then you're ready to start shopping around for your truck.

It's from Wayne's World, and an awesome mod that everybody should do.

$36K for a TRD Sport - That must be with an AT tranny and the JBL sound right?? If not try another dealer. Also just look at the sticker you will see what "add-ons" they are well adding on! Seems a tad high $$

Building the same truck they have on the lot comes to over $37k on toyotas website. I do get a slight discount but it's not worth mentioning.

I know what I want. TRD sport 4x4, auto, with navigation and I'd be happy.

I have played with the build tool a lot already and the truck they just got in is cheaper than me building the same one on their site.

As for positive equity on the Taurus never going to happen. The mileage is high from being a highway car and my uncle hit it off my mailbox and scratched it bad enough to have to have insurance fix it which now shows up on the car fax... So if I can sell it outright I might lose just a grand. If I trade it in I'm loosing $4-5k. Been trying to sell for a couple months now

Bought my TRD sport automatic double cab with tow package for around $30,500 (excluding TTL). Not 4x4 but your prices seem high.

Agreed, but I'd rather go with a beef jerky dispenser instead of Twizzlers.

Maybe, as a vendor, you could start marketing snack dispensers for vehicles.

It's a hard call. One will give you diabetes and the other colon cancer ... Why not both? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You have to remember there is a wide range in prices for the 'sport' models.

    Want Tech/premium/jbl - that's close to 3K.

    Want 4x4 - that's another 3K.

You may have a base model sport, but don't assume they all cost that little.

It's because of 4 wheel drive, 2 wheel drive trucks are always much cheaper. Dealerships around here really don't even get 2wd trucks in

They sure do...I don't need two cars...my other car is a 1999 mustang cobra. So a truck for the winter would be okay with me.
