You can carry a 6' couch. You're just tying it down while I'm closing my tail gate...

I think people should be put in jail for doing that.

You cannot do it without cutting the frame.

Don’t mutilate a Tacoma. Just go buy another one and sell the one you have.

Just FYI the long beds have a longer wheel base so even if you did cut the frame you still would have to modify a short bed because the gas cap is in a different place etc.
It wouldn’t look the same as a short bed when you were all done. Your rear wheels would basically be at the rear of the bed. Not in the same place they are on a short bed.

I also second why you would want to take a useable bed and make it unusable. Just buy a 4Runner.

Every time I go to haul something in my truck... it wouldn’t fit if I had a short bed.
    Every
    Damn
    Time

Not just sometimes things wouldn’t fit, every time they wouldn’t fit.

You can leave down the tailgate with a shortbed to fit larger items but... you want to know the fastest way to damage your tailgate??

    Drive around with it down.

I've owned a 2006 DCSB and now I own a DCLB. I will never go back to a short bed. So many reasons a long bed out weighs the short bed.
You can throw a motorcycle in the back and put the tail gate up. You can carry a stand up paddleboard in the back without needing a bed rack.
Multiple dog crates for multiple dogs. The list goes on and on.

    that's not what she said

    Long bed for hauling
    Short bed for off road

I have never owned a short bed but my taco long bed is a bit short at times but that's why they make full size trucks when ours come up short

The biggest advantage of a DCLB over a 1/2 ton is the Tacoma won't rust out the body before you're done paying for it. All the big 3 1/2 tons do this here in Iowa until Ford went aluminum.

IMO it comes down to towing capacity and how much you drive suburban/rural vs. suburban/city. The tacoma is just an easy truck to drive around the city, even in DCLB form because width is more of a factor than length getting around the city since the rearview cam + backing into parking is a breeze.

As far as interior size goes, how much space does one really need? I looked at a few tundra crewmax's and was amazed at all the space i wouldnt use on a daily basis. And i'm 6' 220 not exactly a spring chicken. Payload? Throw some heavy duty springs on and you have a capable rig.

It also fits neatly into a small garage with room to work on it. Relatively easy truck to wrench on too

Absolutely true. I had a DCLB Tacoma, I now have a SuperCab (extended cab) 6-1/2 ft bed F-150. It's only about 7" longer than the Tacoma, but it's also that much wider. I could swing the Tacoma into just about any parking spot, no problem. The F-150 I need to be selective.

I live in a rural area and tend to park away from people, so it doesn't bother me. But, if I lived in a populated place where I often had to park near people in small spaces the F-150 would be pretty miserable.

Even that is debatable. I personally owned a 2008 DCLB and drove a 2013 DCSB for work. Drove the same desert dirt roads and the LB was way better at handling woops and high speed turns. The only area the SB has an advantage is bouldering and tight forests.

Why would you even consider doing this? Just find another Tacoma owner to trade with or sell and buy what you need. You would lose in costs of modification, resale value and potential buyers.
