Sorry - fairly new here to TW. I'm really torn between the OR and Sport. I'd be doing some odd roading but nothing crazy.

however, I really like the features of the OR but like the looks of the Sport. In particular its the wheel fenders, front bumper and hood scoop. I prefer the color matched and prefer the hood scoop - but want the OR features. Am I really dumb to consider getting the OR but changing out the front bumper and fenders to color match and getting a new hood that has the scoop? I think I know the answer. just get the damn Sport as I won't be missing out too much on the OR features. Thanks.

Just get the offroad and swap for a sport hood. If you really want the OR that badly, don't get the sport. Just ask if you need the locker. If you don't, get the sport. If you do, get the OR and slowly exchange pieces. I love my sport and it's more than capable to do what I need it to do. What do you NEED?

Thank you so much for the reply. I guess there is not much I’m missing. I really don’t see myself using the locker but I just feel like I would be missing out on something in the event I needed to do more off road. But sounds like the sport is more than capable. I just keeping going back and forth and it’s killing me. Ughhhh. Thx so much

    It's a secret
Try not to be affected by how other people will view you when all you are doing is expressing yourself through your vehicle...except if you squat/stance a little 4-banger ricer...then, you're SOL and will have to take all the flack...hahaha.

Many owners here get SR5 trims and make then ORs, or they have Sports to make them look like ORs and Pros, and same with OR owners and prefer to make them look like Sports. The asthetics is the easy part...the mechanical capabilities are the main factors.

    You do you bro!

Any 4wd Tacoma is very capable off road, from the SR all the way up to the TRD Pro. It really comes down to what you want and what you need it to do. If it's serious off roading, the locker and crawl control might be useful. If it's forest service roads and the like, any Tacoma will do the job.

BUT, this is TacomaWorld and you're about to be repeatedly told to get the Off Road and that it's the only real Tacoma and if you don't have a locking rear diff, you could die. :crapstorm:

Test drive them all ... just don’t get the bro grill .. aka Toyota grill . I have the off road great truck love the suspension. The sport comes with more tech stuff . Off-road u need to get the tech package .it will cost u more for the truck .ultimately it’s your choice don’t let a forum base you’re decision . Get out and do extensive drives with them all find the one u love . Best of luck .

The non functional hood scoop is not worth it.

Sounds to me like you really want the Sport. Just get the Sport and forget about the extra "features" on the OR if you really don't need them, and that's coming from a guy with the OR. I have the "Crawl Control", but I'm never going to use it. I bought the OR because I like the look of the truck better.

That’s super helpful. I appreciate the candor southern fried. I feel like I’m leaning sport. Besides crawl, locker and beefier rear diff, what else am I missing ?

That's basically it. Like you said, you prefer the scoop, painted fenders, etc. Those are differences too and you already said you preferred the Sport because of those. Look at the differences in wheels too. OR has 16 inch while Sport has 17 inch. It's all personal preference there. I like the OR wheels better, but the Sport wheels look just fine. They look even better when you slap a more aggressive tire around it. The shocks are different too. OR comes with Bilstein shocks but I'm not sure of the branding on the Sport shocks. Maybe the ride is different? I highly doubt it's very noticeable.

All really good points. I think I will definitely do do a small lift suspension and slap on some more aggressive tires.

If "looks" are what you are mainly going for, your Sport will look more "Off-Road" than a factory OR will with a small lift (or not) and more aggressive tires.

The TRD OR has a larger rear end. 8.8" vs 8". A rear locker is invaluable when you need it and MTS gives enough controll over the front diff to make the front locker not worth the cost for most of us. I've found crawl controll useful once in 4 years of ownership....

You can get a Manual transmission long bed in a Sport as long as you want an Access Cab

The Manual Off Road would have A-TRAC in place of Crawl Control and the brake system also differs between sport and OR
