You put OR decals on your SR5

People who know Tacomas will laugh when they see those wheels with those decals

It's a trim package badge so I could give two shits what people think of it. If they're paying my car note they can have an opinion that matters.

Y'all giving him crap about stickers but no one commented about putting a mini winch on it?

OP why put a mini winch? If you ever need it for self recovery it won't have enough power

Removed front spoiler, Toyota All Weather Mats, Toyota sill protectors, Towing package with Curt tow bar & hitch, tinted front driver & passenger windows @28% Llumar Film, removed pinstripes, added 4x4 TRD Off Road decals, Toyota OEM mud flaps, BFG KO2 265/75/16 tires, ...more to come.
The truck (according to the Toyota site) weighs in at approximately 4200lbs. The winch that I was looking at on Amazon.com (Warn winch) had a rating above 4200lbs. Would that not work for self recovery? Remember I am new to the 4x4 scene so please "educate" me, rather than attempting to make me look foolish.

In addition, I wouldn't be adding the winch at all unless it looked sleek and had a mount that was relatively unobtrusive.

i would go to warns web site, look around. it may be ok, i;m sure they have a spot where you can ask a question. if your not doing any heavy duty offroad, but just want some insurance if you get stuck, i think it would be ok. i would just make sure.

4200# assuming there is no extra weight and truck in on flat ground, not stuck and you're just trying to roll it. When you get in mud, its takes a lot more pulling power.

So what is the factor? 2x truck weight? 2.5x truck weight?

There is no real coversion factor. Depends on so many things. But a 8500-9000# unit would be about as light as you'd want to go

Okay, after doing some quick research, I've decided I won't be adding a winch. I know that I will only be using my 4wd occasionally and I would never see the benefit. Plus, it looks like there is a LOT more to it than I care to delve into. So scratch the "winch" part of the "What plans do you have for your truck?" answer.

To give you an idea.... TRD Sport 4x4 Silver Skye. The decals are made by Far North by Design.

Incorrect...a 4200# winch could lift the truck vertically

I hope that truck was made in Texas. You don't want to be called a poser for having an American flag on the side when it was made in mexico

Ha! Yea, luckily I think I have a Texas build. Even if I didn't, I would risk the "poser" title for the flag. ;)

I think it's funny that people take pride mistaking "made in" with "assembled in" America. With most vehicles that are assembled in the US it is only done so to reduce import tariffs, and while the finally assembly is done in the US the bulk majority of the parts are not made here. It's often the case that the chassis, drivetrain, and a large part of all the upper and under body, interior, exterior trim, and other parts are all manufactured outside the US. I mean, I guess someone can take pride in the fact that all of those manufacturing jobs were moved overseas, but I personally think we should all consider the impact that has on our working class.

Agreed, however, if the trucks were made completely in USA they would cost significantly more

Yep, I'm betting by putting the Mexico plant just a few miles outside of the US border, Toyota saves huge bucks in taxes. I'm betting they can pay lower wages too, even though many of the employees are Americans.

Yea, the free-trade deals are what make Mexico essentially the go-to spot for building new manufacturing plants in North America. Even Ford and other domestics are moving a lot of manufacturing there. They've had some issues with strikes recently, over low wages, but I think those things get sorted out pretty quickly. It just sucks because here in Michigan the exodus of manufacturing jobs has caused a lot of problems the past few decades. Such is life I guess.

Anyways, sorry to muck up the thread with politics, I was just trying to make an off-hand observation ... don't mind me :)

... to keep it on topic, I'd rather have some of those alternative custom decals if I had an SR5, but I wouldn't lose sleep over having TRD Off-Road decals. I think some people just find it off-putting in the same way you'll find V6 mustang with GT badges, or Civic non-vtec with Si/vtec badges ... but it's a truck, and lots of people with Tacomas put TRD Pro grills, wheels, etc. on their non-TRD Pro vehicles, so I don't see what the big fuss over a TRD Off-Road on a non-OR yet still 4x4 SR5 is ... maybe if it was 2WD there would be some merit to the complaining, but it's your truck, do what makes you happy.
