I have a 14" SISO muffler welded in place of the stock muffler. I used all OEM piping and exhaust exit. Truck sounds good (4.0), but I wouldn't mind it being a little louder. Would dumping the exhaust right after the muffler make it louder outside, and how will it affect in-cab noise/drone? Or, if I was to have the muffler shop cut out the stock tip and upsize it and install a slash cut would that amplify the sound and make it louder? I just had this muffler put on and I don't want to replace the magnaflow. Just looking for a good, cheap way to make it a little louder, primarily outside. Thanks a lot.

Chopping after the muffler will make the sound reverberate more and will definitely increase the drone. Try looking into electric cut-outs

That'll make it a LOT louder - but only when you want it to be :D

Now when you say louder, are you mainly saying in-cab or outside or both? I don't really mind drone, it's never bothered me. The magnaflow to me is a perfect muffler. Not noticeable at idle, but pretty loud from 2-3k RPM. Muffler seems to quiet down some at WOT. I am not worried much about back pressure, since all of my piping/cats are OEM before the muffler.

It would be exponentially louder both inside and outside the cab, but you can open or close it on demand.

You are referring to electric cut out, right? What exactly is that?

How much we talking for cut-outs?!? That may be a good idea, although I prefer it be loud all the time! I'm personally thinking dumping it will increase drone and potentially outside noise, because it will reflect noise off the pavement. Hoping someone has this setup that will chime in.

I do have that setup and it will increase drone and outside noise. Outside noise = not so much. Drone = a lot

Ok I'm mainly going for outside noise, only because it has a pretty good drone already inside. Not that the drone bothers me, I'm just looking for more "outward, exterior" noise. Would just putting on a larger tip amplify the outside noise, or will that not really effect it? I was always under the impression the shorter you could make your exhaust the louder it would be.

I called the muffler shop today, and asked them their advice on making the magnaflow louder. Pretty much he said replace the muffler with a bullet style magnaflow. He said a turn down would make it quieter outside and louder in the cab. He said enlarging the exhaust outlet will not make it louder. That's what I don't get- I would think enlarging the tip/outlet would amplify the noise. As far as he hi-flow cats, I'm considering that I just don't want any cel's or exhaust fumes.
