Hello guys I will be purchasing a 2004 Toyota Tacoma single cab from a family member very soon and trying to get ideas on what route I should go aesthetic wise. I saw this cool taco driving home from work and don’t know what year but loved how low and clean it looked! Any guesses on what wheel size he might be running or how much he lowered it? And can I make my 04 look similar to his!IMG_0486.jpg

The forum here for street tacos would be where yo start

Also is it a 5 or 6 lug truck? Very different suspensions

As others have mentioned, you posted a picture of a 5-lug (I.e., 5 lug nuts per wheel) Tacoma, which is different than a 6-lug 2 wheel drive Tacoma (aka prerunner). They have the same body and mostly the same frame, but completely different suspension designs.

the most obvious difference is that 5-lugs come on small tires and ride much lower. They also have smaller 2.4l motors. I am sure there are other differences.

So, if you are buying a 5-lug, it’ll already look like this. If it’s a 6-lug I guess you’ll need to look into lowering the suspension. Start googling or searching these forums and see what you can find.

Just sell your 6 lug and buy a 5 lug Tacoma. They’re cheaper so you can use your profit on sic mods.

Mine is 5 lug, suspension is completely stock. Thanks for your response guys much appreciated! Also I have to do more research haha because I didn’t know suspension varies depending on lug pattern.

Only difference I'm seeing is the wheels and mud flaps. I don't think that one is lowered, or if it is, not much.
Theres a ton of info on suspension wheels and lowering kits over on the 5-lug forum

https://www.customtacos.com/ is the place for street machines. It doesn't appear too lively these days, but it used to be a busy place for custom mini-truck and S-Runners in the late 2000s. The archives are still there so you can search around and find lots of good looks and build inspiration.

Really hard to tell if the gray one is lowered from the picture quality, it does look slightly lower if I were to guess / speculate comparing the 2 pics...

here's some sweet rides & info...
I dont recall what gen single cab I had, guessing 90's of some sort, lowering was super simple, crank the front torsions & install some rear blocks...

tons of wheels available for the 5 lug....jeep and many others fit

tons people here bought these trucks and have those rally wheels just sitting
whether they swapped frames or swapped out the rally wheel from the start

when you have a rating of 50 and above...you can post WTB in classifieds here
there will no shortage of replies.....

FB market place for plenty taco stuff around me

just know what size you want ....in later years stock came with 15in rims like yours..

the earlier ones first few years .....like the one in the picture....came stock with 14in.....like mine
    vin plate says it all

the dealers originally had steady supply of rally and mag upgrade options, so you'll see a bunch of the same around

if you drop to the 14in......the speed odometer will think you're going faster than you really are

I talked to the owner briefly and he said his truck is a 2000 and it’s on 15s he said it wasn’t lowered but my 04 sits taller in the rear and I have no idea why if there both stock height and 5 lug??

Will worn out leaf springs really make a big difference in height? Sorry I’ve never had anything with leaf springs so I’m not familiar.

Seems like you answered your own question there buddy :boink:

For some reason I thought they all had the 2.4 but I suppose that might be a false assumption.
