Hey I have an idea to put a false floor in the bed of my truck right above the wheel wells and putting a trap door or something on it so I can put gear and what not in there and still have a flat floor so i can still throw stuff in there or throw a futon mattress or something like that so i can sleep in the bed.

Has anyone else done anything like this? I'm looking for ideas.

I've thought about removing the spare and making a storage compartment there. Then a trap door in the bed to access it. I just haven't had the guts to try it...

I have seen posts on this before. It involved 3/4" plywood, carpet, and center supports.

This. OP, try searching sleeper platforms. That might work out.

2nd Gen but you get the idea... It's 3/4" plywood sitting on 2x6's and there are 2 removable panels all the way in the front so you can get to things that slide to the front of the bed without crawling under the platform.

    Thanks for the help.

This is what I was thinking of doing.

The red is all the hardware. hinges and handles and what not. the handles will most likely be sunk into the plywood.

The green things are the 4x6 supports that keep the floor from bending under load.

The Honda ridgeline has a really awesome storage unit under the bed, might try searching for images on that for some ideas. Please post some pics of what you come up with.
