Italy being Italy. Was there any doubt they were REALLY this good? Not to me there wasn't.

 

First half they were really good and not just defending, middle of second half on they were being Italy

 

Iceland just eliminated England

 

I wonder what the people that ragged on us (Portugal) for not beating them are saying now.

the english bloke on tv yesterday said something along the lines of the english team consisting of all epl players yet they couldn't beat iceland and are on par with being the history floppers, then goes on saying something about rhode island has more registered soccer players than the entire country of iceland, this being the first major tournament their country ever played in.

 

Yeah, I heard that. Crazy. They are good but can't play as a team apparently.

 

Seems people often enough forget the amount of training these athletes do with their club teams. The national team stuff isn't easy. Though on a side note i do remember reading that the USA mens team trains a lot together, since a lot of their players play here in the states and don't play as much throughout the year as the other leagues.

 

Indeed. People forget that it is harder to win titles with your national team than it is with your country. Country competitions are only every couple of years or so, club competitions are every year. Plus you train with your club everyday, national team you're lucky if you get together once a month.

 

Enjoyed watching Iceland win yesterday. Just seems like England is not a functional team. Why is Kane on corners when he should be in the box? The likes of Sturridge, Rashford and Vardy and you can't beat Iceland? I suppose Iceland is a whole lot better than everybody thought. They play with heart. Hodgson needed to resign years ago in my opinion. I'm sure England supporters are glad he is gone. I'll be pulling for Iceland to shock the world!

Ehh... we paid 34 Million for him... Southampton are laughing all the way to the bank... again.

Clyne(really good signing), Lovern(hit or miss for me) Lallana(not world class but works hard) and now Mane.

We figure if we sign someone who scores against us often, he cant do it no more lol

 

Iceland beat out Holland, Turkey, and forgot who else in their qualifying group. They actually beat Holland TWICE in qualifying. They are not as "weak" as people think they are.

 

I think Mane will come through. I really do. We will have to offload Benteke now but what has he really done other than miss shots?? I can do without Lovren. He's more miss than hit.

 

I call it the jeremy lin phenomenon.

 

I hope so.. we have a terrible record in transfer dealings within the last few years. Only players off the top of my head that's come really good are coutinho,Sturridge,Firmino,clyne and MAYBE joe allen.

He's a proven goal scorer in the premier league like benteke, but he's a different sort of player who fits our pressing quick counter attacking game much better than benteke.

 

Definitely a different sort of player. Benteke would work if Gerrard was still playing. When Gerrard left he took all of the good passes into the box with him.
