I just wanna leave my key in the ignition with the fob in my pocket on my key ring. Also, does anyone know how to modify the ignition so that the key can be inserted without having the annoying *ding*

To get rid of the annoying ding you could just unplug the key sense connector.

Also you could have another key cut and programmed, put it in a transponder box and then use a key blank to start your truck. For security purposes wire it to a hidden switch or something.

honestly though it’s pretty stupid. At that point just get a chipped spare regular key made and leave it in the truck. Obviously you don’t care about it potentially being stolen. Your insurance company might however

You beat me to it...if the vehicle happens to be stolen and recovered, and then if insurance catches wiff the car started without damage to ignition column, which they would look into because nowadays it's impossible to steal these things without flat bedding it, or if someone intercepted the encryption using a sniffer close by to replicate a key, they will assume it was left in there as an inside job...not fun if they determine no pay out and cut you from the policy coverage...this has happened. Hard to prove because one can always have had their keys "stolen" or "lost" into the wrong hands...but I personally would have no peace of mind knowing that I have a key in the car...granted, no transponder, no go, but I'm sure there are better alternatives to remedy your pain points...

Bulky HKEY - Wait for @MESO 's Flip Fob
Annoying Door Chime - Tech Stream disable

Not recommended to keep the door switch shorted or forced because then everything that depends on knowing if the door is open or closed is now all mucked up like interior lights, accidentally locking your key/fob in the vehicle now possible, shifting into gear, etc...so anything you don't want happening can now happen because the vehicle "thinks" otherwise...

I could not find this in TS. I know you know more than I do. Can you PLEASE post up some tidbits, because I am just about ready to remove the speaker.

    Thanks!

Also, I somewhat sympathize with @Ruffnek18 . Back in the day of GMs having two keys (pre-chip and living in the boonies), I used to leave the ignition key in the car and just take the door key along. Mainly because I have always hated key rings. Like you said though, I will not leave a transponder key in our vehicles, except when parked in the garage. We don't have any PTS, yet. Delaying that as long as possible.

I wish the mt was push to start. I miss the days of my key never leaving my pocket.

You know me, I am 100% in favor of choice. It is certainly not good given the significant pros and cons that PTS is not an option for everyone, one way or the other. You won't hear this from me very often, but I'd be in favor of adding $100 to the MSRP and providing both to customers and letting them use whatever they prefer. For me, the non-PTS MT is my preference, but I understand where you are coming from.

I will say that I do like the Tesla setup where the ignition can be linked to a smartphone with the assumption that a relay attack is not possible. I don't know the answer on that second part.

My car has 2 keys too, doors, hatch, and glovebox with 1 and ignition with the other. The police version ones used a single key, maybe one day I will go that route even though it really doesn't bother me.

That's an interesting and logical difference. It seemed very weird that there were two keys when I was a kid. I could never come up with a good explanation, esp in the days of easy jimmy'ing the locks and no alarms.

It is funny to think that these are classic cars now.

Yeah I know there are different key designations, but for information my 2019 SR hard key (no fob) is an “H” key. I’ve since added Southeast Toyota keyless entry mod (fob).

Post a picture of your key if you don’t mind. Pretty sure all H Keys have the integrated FOB, which is what I was talking about.

Edit: after some research, it appears as though newer SR’s with the regular “dumb” key are stamped with the “H” as well. Just adds to the confusion.

Sorry, it was in Carista and the parameter title was around the "Wireless door lock" parameter. The parameter names are so way off base that "Wireless Door Lock" Parameter is actually 1-click driver, 2- all doors or not...

Thanks, Jimmy. But, I think I am more confused now? Sorry! :D

I agree that the naming is not helpful for some of the parameters. Although from my past experience, the Carista customizations are the same as TS. No more / no less?

From this description, it sounds like you are talking about this:
    upload_2020-8-24_15-11-34.jpg
Attached is the whole document that has been passed around.

I do have this set to Off (all doors unlock).

Although, I was I was mainly asking about killing the key-in / door-open chime. AFAIK, that isn't killable in TS or Carista, but I don't know every nook and cranny of TS.

    Thanks again!

I have both of those off. They are for the beep volume when you use your key fob.

    Here's the explanation behind those:

From reading description and the submenu they're in, I believe they apply to the feedback tone when you lock/unlock your vehicle using fob. The sound level corresponds to how loud the "beep beep" is when unlocking. I turned it down to 3 on mine. I belive if you set Buzzer Response to 'no', you will not get anything.

Edit: I too looked over all the menus and submenus and couldn't find the magic setting to turn that thing off. I guess you can just disable the Door Ajar push sensor on the side of the driver door but you run the risk of not setting off something else that should when the door is actually open.

Some time back Toyota started making all the Tacoma keys with the “H” transponder chip code, even the SR models with the hard key. Show me a picture of your H key fob first... lol

It’s the exact same as the picture I attached in that post with the integrated FOB.

But how do I know For sure YOUR key has an H?

I’m just joking with you for wanting me to prove what I said, eh :D
Here ya go, every newer SR owner without keyless entry has one like this. The fob is from the Southeast Toyota distributors SR Keyless Entry kit I installed to get keyless entry (must already have power door locks). It works great (panic button is on the back), 2 fobs, and I got it for $100 shipped.

Lol many members on this forum (including myself occasionally) frequently mislabel/misname things leading to more confusion.

Yes, your key has an H on it, but is typically not referred to as the “H key” by forum members or forum venders. Specifically remote start venders. If you try and buy a remote start system meant for the “H key” it’s probably not going to be compatible.

    Clear as mud right? Haha
