So it's in! Just did a quick drive around the block since the RTV only had around 5-6 hours to dry. With the colder temperatures, I want to make sure it is set before using it for any additional length of time.

Overall though, I like the initial feel and gearing change. Would obviously be happier with something like a 4.10 for around town driving, but the 3.73's will be much more appropriate for highway use.

Sorry - quick scan of messages doesn't show what tire size you are running on those 18x9's?

255/45/18 right now (factory X-Runner size).

You are at 27" in tire diameter, over OEM 26.9" original? Am i figuring those numbers right?

You are technically over-geared at this time, you can easily keep the rims and go up in tire profile, if higher profile are available, next tire change.

Haha, actually I really wanted to go lower profile, but wasn’t sure how it would look with the mild drop I currently have. Yeah I know I’m kinda backwards from many on here who are lifting/going bigger diameter.

I would just stick with the 3.73's then - you REALLY don't need to go higher at this time ;)

You should notice an improvement in off the line acceleration.

lol I know, but I love short gearing. My Miata is a hoot with 5th gear being a 1:1 and having a 4.3 rear end. I love how I can shift into third by the time I get through a normal intersection. Screams on the highway but rowing the close ratio gears is a blast.

So I know this is an older thread but would anyone know if an entire rear axle from a second gen 5 lug with the 3.73 would fit under the first gen? I know the leaf spring configuration is different but I was just curious...
