Yep, I got lucky. My brother was planning to sell his in 2019, but when me and my wife decided to go on a road trip in 2018, he sold it to me a year early. I paid dead center between trade in value and private party, and I have the history of the truck back to 2009. (truck is an '07).

In my honest opinion, if going for a V6, give me an automatic every day. I've test driven a 6 speed with a V6 and the magic just isn't there. My little regular cab 4x4 is hardly anything special, but I can make it move out of it's own way if I get the revs high enough.

In stock form, I agree with you. Get rid of the clutch fluid accumulator, and get it tuned (the latter of which I'll be doing before winter) to remove the rev-hang. Then you've got a different animal.

The gear ratios still suck, but eh, I like driving stick so I deal.

I remember when I was looking at used Tacomas (1st and 2nd gens), 4x4 was my #1 priority followed by manual trans. Basically wouldn't settle for anything other than those two together.

Had a hell of a time finding 2nd gens nearby with that combo, but damn near every 1st gen met the criteria lol.

I totally disagree. People complain about the 6MT all the time, but I don’t get it. Feels much peppier to me than the automatics. I’ve had 3 and love them all. It’s a truck transmission, never going to shift like a sports car, but with some MT-90 it cleans up nice.

To the OP, took me forever to find mine, but I’m glad I waited, I love it.

I think the accumulator and the rev hang turn off a lot of people. Myself included. Bypassing the accumulator made driving the truck MUCH nicer. I can't wait to get rid of the rev hang, then it'll act more like a cable actuated throttle. Sign me up.

I am on my third 2nd Gen 6m TRD OR AC. Sold the first, regretted it, bought another and promptly wrecked it. Searched high and low for the one I have now. Took me 6 months, had to commit to it sight unseen, and fly out to Montana to pick it up. I absolutely love this configuration and have not found anything I would replace it with...yet. Good luck, you wont be sorry if you find one!

What is the shifter pattern on the 6MT?

There are more than a few of them out there, there just aren't a ton of us lining up to give them up yet.
