I love my 6 speed. Hoping to get a TRD SS in it sometime in the near future and it will be even better. Never owned an auto and don't plan on starting any time soon.

I do not view driving as a chore...I enjoy it. When I am driving, I am focused on what I'm doing. I could not care less about being able to do 10 other things while I'm driving. If you need to do all those other things while you're driving, then you're just asking for an accident. Damn people with automatics don't pay attention to what their doing. It seems like every day I have to honk at someone who is just sitting at a green light, or crossing into my lane, etc...99/100 times, it's someone driving an automatic.

That's bullshit , you're either a good driver or a shitty driver , it doesn't matter if you have a standard or an auto .

If you have to concentrate to drive a manual , you probably are in with the shitty drivers .

Good to know that you don't concentrate when you drive.....my point exactly. Most people would rather multitask while driving, instead of actually driving...

No , I concentrate on the road .

My point was that when you drive a standard , like I did for 20 years before I got this truck , the whole " push the clutch in and move the shifter " action became second nature , not really something you need to concentrate on .

    You said concentrate, not me....

And by design, a manual transmission forces you to be more involved in the driving process, doesn't matter how good you are, it still takes more effort/ skill than a slush box.

    Automatics create complacency.

    OK

By your reasoning a first year driver in a manual is a better driver than a 20 year driver in an auto .

    5 sp Manual for me.
6 sp my in my wife's VW sedan (rocket ship with a 2.0 turbo)
5 sp manual in my daughters VW wagon.(thought it was a fast 1.8 turbo until we got the sedan)

Prev manual trans - Toyota coup, honda sedan, honda hatch, subaru hatch.

Prev auto tran: just a pontiac sedan,
cured me of both auto tran (crazy 4sp auto that would maybe to to 4th and maybe on only third, depending on day) and GM.

I taught my oldest daughter how to drive on a manual (for a couple of years before actual driving I let her shift from the passenger side to get the idea). Followed up passanger side shifting with passenger side steering.

Everyon should at least learn to drive a manual but then choose what is right for them.

    lets review:
The manual in the Tacoma is junk, the auto is better.
    The blower motor makes noise
The rear springs bottom out on a heavy load
The stock tires are no good
    (did I leave anything out?)
How come I don't have those problems and (a few) people do?

I never said "better"...I said people who drive automatics don't pay attention to what they're doing. I would bet that someone learning to drive a manual is paying more attention to what they're doing than someone who has been driving a slush box for 20 years.

Let's just agree to disagree .

I stand by what I said , you are either a good driver , who pays attention to the road and your conditions , or you are not.

Driving a manual , does not automatically ( see what I did there ) make you " pay more attention "
