Hey My First Gen Tacoma Brothers,

My buddy Sean and I have another video for you. I helped my friend Jordan replace the bearings and seals on a set of 1st Gen Tacoma Manual Hub Knuckles he picked up on Ebay and then install them on his 3rd Gen 4runner.

Here's the video and Enjoy the Show!

Do you think this would work on placing these hubs on a 2012 Tacoma 4x4?

Mounting it to the tire to torque down the nut is brilliant.

No clue. It would be my guess that a 2012 Tacoma would have a different knuckle than a 1st Gen Tacoma. But, I don't know for sure.

Its pretty similar, actually, with the main difference being that the hub/bearing assemblies bolt on to the knuckles (but the hub is still pressed in with the bearing), but, so far, there's only one dude that's got it figured out:

A quote from the dude on what parts he's using:

And a pic from his thread:

Hey Dudes, Here’s a Part 2 to this video. On my 98 4Runner, I did the manual hub swap but I swapped over the Tacoma manual hubs to my 4Runner knuckles because I wanted to retain ABS function. This video would also be helpful to people who just want to replace worn out wheel bearings in their A.D.D. knuckles.

All these hubs run the same bearing. I have noticed that the Tacoma hubs I took the parts from had one Timken bearing and one Koyo bearing. It looked like the Timken was the original because the mechanics screwed up the lock nut on the one with the Koyo bearing. But, the Timken and Koyo bearings look the same. What you provided a link to looks like the internals of the Koyo and Timken bearings with double taper bearings inside.

466F3BD8-CC98-4B86-B44F-3D7BABEF09AC.jpg This is what I had in my ‘98 Taco. Bearings spilled out when separating but the main bearing was still intact behind the c clip in the knuckle.
It had 1 taper bearing & one regular bearing.

No, no, no, no. Your bearing just came apart when pressing the hub out. You have half of the bearing on the hub spindle and half still in the knuckle. Trust me. It's just one bearing.

    Yeah correct.

It took me forever to realize that. I spent a lot of time searching. Its one big bearing.

You are so correct. I am not worthy to post in your presence.
Seriously, thanks for setting me straight.

That's not the way I intended you to take my post. I just wanted to inform you that what you saw with your hub pressed out of your knuckle wasnt exactly what you thought. I want people to have accurate information, especially in a thread I started. It's too bad you took offense to being corrected. I come across a little strong at times so maybe I'm partially to blame.

I did not take offense. I’m delighted that you pulled my head out before I bought that taper bearing. Keep doing what you’re doing. I really do appreciate your help.

Oh, well good. Part of the problem with online communications is misinterpreting what somebody meant. Happy Wrenching!
