This would be a gas saver and a wear and tear saver. But what is the cost? Automobile manufacturers got rid of the locking hubs so they could market trucks and suvs to moms. I grew up on rigs with locking hubs, left them locked in the winter months, but that requires forethought.

I would've done it already, but he hasn't made any plus 2in shafts for long travel yet. It's an expensive mod that prob won't ever safe me enough gas to justify it. But I enjoy working on my truck so it gives me something to do as a hobby rather. Also you could prob squeeze a larger front lift as your cv angle won't matter as much for wear and tear purposes.

Hit up Solo Motorsports for longer manual hub cv's - they put them on some of their long travel 2nd gen kits (XLT) but might be able to adapt their +2 kit axles for you.

I'm incredibly interested!!!! Having full time AWD on my FJ Cruiser makes me very nervous. If I break a front diff, I'm screwed!

With locking hubs, I would be able to disconnect the front hubs, drop the front driveshaft, and be good to go home locked in 4HI so I could use RWD.

@Sideline Hero I have a few questions for you. PM inbound!

Wow!! nice work, indeed. I have been thinking about doing this to my 2005 field work truck.

-So, I assume you are hybridizing the CV's? inners are 2005 and up and outers are 95-2000?? and the hubs are from the 95-2000 tacoma's??

-Would you need to change the steering "knuckles" as well? to fit the older model hubs? or are they compatible?

-How would one reconcile the ABS sensor on the newer models and is there a method to retain the ABS braking system when doing auto to manual locking hub conversion?

-And what about the ADD system in the front diff, bypass or delete?? ECU issues? idiot lights?

I definitely want to do this after the fj cruiser t-case conversion is finished!!

Well done, it looks like a promising solution for people who may want to upgrade their drivetrain.
