It really depends on how you drive. You can get slightly better gas mileage but I did not find it significant. That's why I decided to buy an AUTO over a MANUAL.

I have Auto, but when i first bought my truck i just wanted something that would last forever and get me to the dirtbike track. But now that i use my truck for the desert and other off-roading i wish i got the manual.

Not true. . . anymore. If your battery is dead, you are SOL. Everything in all new vehicles is computer controlled: ignition, fuel injection, anti theft, etc. . . Granted, I have never bought an automatic anything, and wont. With the exception of a full sized, 3/4 ton or bigger.

I think it is pathetic if any grown man cant drive a stick. (or woman for that matter)

    Manual all the way.

Auto. Manuals are pains in the ass and pointless on anything other than muscle/sport/roadster cars.

6spd. OVer 5 yrs later, no problems, better mpg than the sticker states (avg 17 winter, 20 summer), fun to drive, great at towing, off-road, hills, backroads and winter driving.

Just doesnt love high interstate speeds and stop and go, basically non-issues for me.

The auto works well too, but I'd buy my 6spd again.

I had a 2007 Tacoma TRD Off Road in 6 spd, loved it. put on close to 89,000 KMS, worked perfect everytime. However, I am engaged now, soon to be married, my fiance can't drive stick, since we share the vehicle most of the time, I opted to get auto.

If Toyota does not offer a manual transmission when I'm ready to replace my 2001 Tacoma hopefully in 2020 /2025. I won't be buying another Toyota!

My better half drives a 2005 Honda CRV 5 speed. When we were engaged. we took a new 1977 Jeep CJ7 out for a test drive. I drove it off the lot to an empty school yard. we switched seats & she learned how to drive a stick. BTW - "YES" we are still married - April 1st will be 32 years!

Once upon a time, manuals were better than autos. Not anymore. In fact, the tides have turned completely.

    Auto gets better gas mileage.

I must admit, manuals are more fun to drive, especially for men. It's like you're playing with yourself except people don't call the cops when they see you.:D

    My 87' pick-up was a manual.

I bought the automatic for the same reason i bought my 2000 with an automatic. I use my truck for my business since 2000-2001, which requires me to use my hands for things other than shifting.

This the first automatic I've owned. It's awesome and from what I have read about the shifting issues with the manual I am glad I bought the auto. Plus I needed a break from all the hill shifting. 3 years on the hills of San Fransisco and 13 years of the hill in and out of Seattle. Downtown is a bitch especially when some A-hole is right on your ass on a almost vertical climb with wet roads slick with oil.

    Although I do miss shifting...
