Long time Jeep YJ owner, keeping my Jeep and putting one ton axles and 40" tires on it. I want want to buy 6 speed manual 2017 Tacoma TRD off road for : more room for camping, better ride, air conditioning, better fuel economy (yes, 19 MPG is better than 9-10 MPG., it's like being a tall dwarf)
Eventual want to add a Taco Box ....I like to crawl the mountain trails at a horseback pace.....I am not going to rockcrawl the Taco, that is the Jeep's duty.
It would be great if I could actually trailer the 3500 lb Jeep up the road to the mountains but I realize that may not be possible.
    Any comments are welcome,
    .

    Welcome to TW.

Since you don't plan on technical rock crawling, get the manual if that's what you prefer.

I would definitely check the weight on the rock crawler once you put tons and big rubber on. I'm willing to bet you will be in the 4500 lb range at the minimal.

This one is 4300 lbs without tools and cooler, and it's totally stripped down (dash, HVAC, plastic, all gone).

Welcome! While I can drive a manual, I’ve always preferred auto when going off road, so good luck with your search and I’m sure you’ll get a lot of good info here at TW.
