Ahhhh ... I missed the optimum word ... "below" ... you my friend are right and I stand corrected ... ... unless it is a 6 speed which we are talking about then it is 33.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333% of the time ...

You left off a three. :p

I simply think a MT is more fun to drive, I just don't like the launch on this particular model. Still, I prefer it over AT...just personal opinion, I suppose, and I know I am in the vast majority of humans on that.

With the current manual offered, I'd choose automatic any day.

Directed at nobody in particular and not trying to be an ass, but did those of you who really can't stand the Tacoma MT not test drive your truck?

So this pretty much boiled down to, if the level you enjoy driving a manual outweighs it not being the best mt then get one, if not, don't

Manual because I like to drive the truck and not have the truck drive me.

That is my exact opinion. My '98 F-150 manual shifted like a truck! Try driving that for a couple years and then going to the 2nd gen 6 speed. It felt like going to a car.

I'll always buy a manual though, the enjoyment outweighs the downfalls for me. And it is true, less people want to borrow it.

I had a 98 F-150 SuperCab manual before the Tacoma for several years. It feels like a car compared to that thing.

I don't think you are being an ass ... that is a very valid question? ;)

I drive mine as smooth as any auto...keep practicing guy. I will bet my mileage is the same as an auto so don't know where you came up with your numbers. Obviously if you rev each gear high and jackrabbit drive from every stop sign you will get worse mileage than your friend with the automatic. Like the other poster stated, should have test drove before you bought if standard isn't your thing. The 6 speed manual drive no different than an old 1987 toyota i drove years ago, just a shorter stick to move. If you are comparing it to a honda civic manual, then you might consider it horrible.

Probably got the mileage numbers from Toyota where they state the Auto gets better economy than the Manual

My 1st to 2nd is smooth, no problem. Just like all the other gears.

The auto is better in this truck. Toyota really hosed the 6 speed trans and clutch.

Good question, and no worries. I test drove an '11 with several hunder miles on it, it was pretty good, no driveline shudder either. My '12 6 spd I ordered from Oregon because there were none around me in CA or Nevada. So yeah, I didn't test drive it - I took delivery off the transporter. I wasn't going to go to Portland just for test drive, and certainly wasn't going to spend 12 hours in the car driving home.

It's a crappy box, Aisin manuals suck, some more than others. MT90 here I come.
