He doesn’t. He’ll still regurgitate the same message on every thread though and won’t reply to anyone that posts a contradicting response.

I don’t disagree with him that the torque output is not high on this engine, but to say you need an automatic to do anything is silly. Every modern automatic wants to be in the highest gear all the time. You end up having to control it manually to do ‘work’. If you’re going to do that, you may as well get the actual manual and drive it how you want.

I wonder if they can change a tire?

What's the consensus on resale value of a MT? I'd imagine it's pretty good since it's more rare than the AT.

While we don't have big mountains here in new england, i've towed though our hills with my automatic. I can't find any reason why you'd want a manual in this day, and age unless just wanting one to be different.

Totally not true. My auto works very well, just as some manuals have issues. There's a whole lot more autos out there, so some are more bound not to perform well.

I prefer manual simply because it's fun and engaging. However other benefits include but are not limited to, more difficult to steal, better control on snow and ice when downshifting, compared to traditional braking, cheaper to maintain and can DIY oil change, price was $2K less than automatic.

Not everyone can drive a manual, and that's alright.

Sounds like user error to me. Flooring it in 4hi on a steep hill climb is not advised unless you are jumping sand dunes. Put it in 4lo.

I honestly haven’t had a lot of trouble. When I do, I put it in 4lo. There’s also the 2lo mod.

These debates are silly. I don’t think many people drive a manual these days because it’s significantly easier to drive or better than an automatic. People drive them because they are more fun, engaging, and challenging. You either like them or you don’t.

I do have a hard time listening to the endless complaints about how the 3rd gen auto shifts. Every complaint I hear is the same complaint I’ve had about ever auto I’ve ever driven. I found a simple solution to the problem: trade it in for a manual.

Why would one crawl in 4high? 4High is for high speed driving, such as ripping down FSRs or driving on snowy highway.

4low is so much easier on the clutch too.

Don't forget that you can shift manually using the S mode on the automatic shifter. It is still fun to rev higher rpms before shifting and you don't need to worry about a clutch or rolling back on a steep hill. May be something else to consider.

Very much so! Especially how scathing some of these comments are about automatic transmissions!

My 2 daughters learned to drive stick in High School because they lived in Europe (Germany & Italy) and most of the vehicles there were manual. (I'm retired military and they went to DoDs Schools)

Youngest drives a manual GTI and now a manual Mini...she loves the acceleration of small cars through the gears.

Both learned to drive manual on a 2000 Beetle Turbo...which was a fun little car to drive.

I just don't see the same comparison on a truck.

Manual has it's purpose...I think it's "funner" to drive on sporty cars than trucks...but hey! That's just my opinion.

Yes, the towing may be a good reason to have a stick-shift but I prefer the automatic transmission.

EDIT: I haven't owned a manual since I bought new the 1993 Isuzu Rodeo.
