I've always had manuals, so it was a no brainer for me to go with the 6-speed. If I ever become disabled in such a manner that I can't work a clutch/stick, then I'll consider an auto. I want to drive the truck, not have it tell me how it is going to drive!

Got the 6spd manual and dont like it. First gear is too short. It's by far the most anoying to drive from all other cars/trucks with manual I owned or driven. RPM's drop very slow when you let go of the gas. My clutch pedal squeaks whens its hot.

6 speed manual for me. I drive in traffic a lot and it really doesn't bother me. I get bored with an automatic. I go on off road trails a lot, and I like the control I have with the manual. My other vehicle is a motorcycle, so manually shifting gears is the only way for me.

I use my truck for daily driving and I get stuck in traffic often so I bought an automatic. If I was doing more offroading I'd have bought the stick.

Manual 6 speed for me. I had the auto box, and hated the way it shifted -- upshifting when going up hills (which caused me to press down on the accelerator to downshift) and downshifting going down.

I've driven my 6 speed 4x4 access cab for 50K now and its still a little weird to drive sometime to me, but I am used to it now and it is what it is. I still love it. I drove a 5 speed before getting this one and it is completely more predicatable and driveable, but I didn't want the 4 banger. The rpm thing everyone talks about is a feature by design that helps with emissions (supposedly). Its supposed to over rev a bit between shifts which can mess with your smooth shifting. I think the long throw on the clutch lever probably doesn't help in the smooth shifting either. Even switching shoes and boots messes with me and my normal shifting. But overall this doesn't' mean I don't like my 6 speed, it just means its different. It kinda reminds me of riding a motorcycle, some days you just got the shift down better than other days or like riding even the same horse every day and having a different experience about every time.
Oh yeah, I got a squeaky clutch arm when the weather is hot like someone else mentioned. Oh well, nothings perfect.
    Love my Taco though!

Manual are so much fun: get better gas mileage cause you can coast to lights and such, but yeah the rpms do not drop so you have to get used. They are a blast to drive mine is manual

Auto. I have had standard shifts for years but the ease of use when it comes to an auto is huge. I find it hard to hold the phone with my head and shift and steer, all while eating a biscuit :D I just like the auto for an everyday driver. JOE>

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
I opt for an auto. I've got injuries to my right shoulder and neck. All the shifting during the commute / regular traffic kills me. I'm an old pussified fart bag......
