Driving in traffic with a standard transmission isn't too bad, unless you get stuck on a substantial incline. Spending 40 minutes moving ten ft every 10 seconds up a 12% grade sucks (yoo hoo, I-70 from Silverthorne up to the Eisenhower tunnel, looking at you. Oh, sorry Floyd Hill, you suck too). And, if you don't go fast enough, someone will cut in front of you every time.

Then add either white out conditions or towing a boat, ahh good times.

In the truck, I would stay with Auto. In my next car though (hopefully a 2008 WRX wagon), I will be going with stick.

Auto for trucks and SUVS, and I guess econo cars, manual for anything fast.

There is no opinion on what gets better mileage on the Tacoma. The A/T gets better MPG. The facts have been shown. BUT, you're right when it comes to which is better for you, it's very subjective.

The 1st and 2nd generation auto's have a lock up converter which acts just like a manuals friction plates, as in no slippage.

Didn't compare the I-4 as my last three Tacoma sized trucks have all been v6 and the last two have been auto's. But you know I liked my first two and they were manual. Guess I'm getting lazy as I'll always have an auto from now on.

I like the manual better for the feel but the auto is a hell of alot easier to back a boat down a ramp so I"m going with auto

I've always preferred manual. I'll pick what gear I want to thank you.

However with this truck i would have lost my major source of funding at the time if i had gotten a manual.... Thank you Father :mad::mad:

Manual, changing gears keeps me focused on driving, i don't get distracted easier, i also like feeling me "putting" in the power and feeling the true truck.

i like the manuals more, having more control, but i wish they were geared higher, i always feel like there should be one or two more.

This is my take i've owned 06 manual and auto i get better mpg because the manual you always are on it. Its just the nature of the stick. Makes you feel like racing. Now if driven the same I might agree.

I used to have a manual when I had a car but I went with the auto with the Tacoma. Went with the auto for the gas mileage and they are way less effort to drive.
