All my toyota trucks had been manual until my 06. I did test drive both trans before buying the auto. Figured I give my broken left hinge a break :p

I've always had a manual and like it way more than autos. Mainly cause there a lot more fun to drive and you get to do something as you drive. Plus the manual is nice to have when offroading.

AUTOMATIC!!! I like driving manual transmissions JUST NOT IN THE TACOMA!! It really sucks - don't like the way it's geared and it is horrible in stop and go traffic. I had an '06 manual but traded it on an '08 automatic. It cost to do it, but it was worth it.

Not to mention my getting older knees can't handle the clutch mutch these days especially in stop and go traffic. Since I plan on having this truck for a LONG time, I wanted something I'd be able to drive without a problem.

    I like Auto better- because:
    1) I live in the DC area - and I like salvaging the energy in my left leg with the stop and go traffic...

    2) Off-roading is easier (to me) in an Auto (P.S. I have tow package with Tranny Cooler)... Proper off-roading techniques often require the use of brake and accel. at the same time... particularly when you cross logs or rocks.

I got the automatic. It's my first auto - ever. I really like it, but I miss having a clutch. I haven't driven it in snow yet, hopefully it will be as good as my old truck, we'll see.

I bought a manual, the city I live in only has 4 stop lights and no stop and go traffic. I really like the 6 speed, really smooth. I drove the automatic but just did not like the way it felt (probably b/c I have never owned a truck that was not a stick).

I went with a manual since I do very little city driving. Plus the price of the truck was much less and $$$ was a concern since I wanted to pay cash. This is my second truck, the first was a manual and loved that old hardbody Nissan.

I said manual but, I think the new taco will be an auto. For the better fuel mileage and for towing with the trans cooler. I love the manual in my 2000 but I'd like to drive the 4 runner sport some too and the wife can't drive a stick. Man that runner is awesome with the v8 and the sport suspension.

I have an auto taco... 6spd was my first choice but it came down to '08 availability, black was a larger priority, and I have a 5spd VR4 sitting begging to be fixed for my shift'n fix. Auto on a truck is kinda nice though TBH, especially during towing. Shifting is my true love though :/

One thing that the auto does piss me off with on this truck is the stoplight lurch. At times if I'm light on the brake (like I was used to with the G), feels like someone rear ended me (albiet at 3mph). Annoying, highly annoying.

not sure why this keeps being said? I'd rather have a standard for towing,... less worry of cooking the tranny
me too, me too!!! I hate that about his auto!

Eh, with a tow package and the tranny cooler, that's really a non-issue. Having an auto makes hill ascent/decent easier than constantly shifting. It's not that big of a deal, but when I drove to oregon with a u-haul on my ranger, I was kinda glad I had an auto at that time. Personal pref more than anything I'm sure. But like I said, I'd rather have a stick for everything else.

Auto........Offroading you have one less pedal to mess with and the auto's come with a reducer gear in the tranny/transfer case. You don't have to worry about stalling it out when your transvering a nasty section of trail.
