I wouldn't even consider living in a city. I like to be as far away from cities as possible. Traffic sucks...

I have had manual transmissions for 34 years and I admit they are fun to drive. I would always go with a manual on a performance sports car if I had one.

I voted automatic because now they get better mileage than manuals, less maintenance on an automatic and over the long run they are more expensive (clutch jobs), allows you to do other things with a free hand :D, anyone can drive my truck without burning out a clutch (wife), better for towing, better for 4wheeling IMO, allows the vehicle computer to have better control of the stability features, rush hour start and stops on a freeway suck, and I think they make the vehicle easier to sell when needed. I don't care about downshifts much because I would rather wear out brakes than a clutch. Brakes are so easy to replace on your own.

First Gen=Manual. I loved the way it handled. The 4 spd auto was good, no complaints, but the manual was better for me.

Current Gen.=Auto. 5 speed auto is smooth. So far it has been reliable too. I really wanted the 6 spd manual. After I drove it, I changed my mind. After reading all the troubles with the clutch, I'm glad I went auto.

All one can do is drive both and see what works for you. In general I prefer manuals, but until toyota improves their current design, I'll stick with auto.

I drove 100 miles to get my 2011 Manual--
Had to have it. If I had to get Auto, I would have gotten it locally, but that would have never happened.

I love how I can manually shift through the gears of my auto if I feel like it , or not if I don't

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I have done that with my dad's Duramax, it actually has a manual function you can switch it to for towing and you shift on the column instead of the center console. Really comes in handy for going down steep grades with 8,000 lbs back there.
Dad plans to trade that truck in on a V6 Taco AC with an auto, will have to try manual shifting with that and see what it is like! I know I am a die hard manual lover, but I have to admit it is nice getting in an auto once in a while and just putting it in gear and going. I love my 5 speed though, it is tight and does not clunk around like the 6 speed does, why they dont put the same transmission in the V6 is beyond me.

Toytec 2.5" lift., just the beginning. Front Builstein coil-overs fully adjustable from 0-3". 2" AAL in the rear with 2.5 degree shim. Total Chaos uni-ball UCA's.
I personally prefer a manual in my little truck. However when driving the 1 ton dually, it's nice to have the automatic, save some strain on the leg, especially when climbing steep grades with a trailer.

Never even think about a slush box. I also read the auto does a lot of down shifting with the cruze on. Also better for towing & larger tires.
