Manual for me, "I" like being the one in charge when it comes to shifting. I can't begin to express my hatred for slush boxes. Especially in the middle of nowhere and alone.

I'm old, and had my share of sticks. Now I like auto. That's why it took me so long to find my truck. They were all manuals. Older and lazy = Auto....:D Plus manual sucks in traffic.

    I like Manuel shifting.
I mean, he does a great job every time he drives my truck.

    Thanks Manny!

My newer 2nd Gen. taco is an auto, my older 1st. Gen. was a manual. Manuals are great for winter time and steep downhill driving. It's great to downshift and take your foot off the brake. I used to live in Orlando, Florida and drive in heavy traffic. My left leg would be worn out by the time I got to work for pushing that clutch in and out sitting in those traffic jams and waiting behind wrecks. Plus, my knees are shot from sports injuries and getting older. It will have to be auto for me from now on.

    Manual.
I have only owned Manual vehicles. though its nice and easy to drive autos, there are just some situations that a manual is better. I really like manuals for driving on slick/snowy/icy roads. Especially like them in the mountains because manual transmission can help control your downhill speed, and for up hill speed the auto transmissions tend to constantly up shift and downshift, like it cant make up its mind.
I could see how an auto would be better for offroading though because you only have to let off the brake. Clutches can be tricky when going uphill or climbing over rocks etc.
I might move to an auto, because i have a herniated disc in my lower back, and its a bitch to keep pushing in the clutch. hopefully I get my back fixed soon, but I am seriously considering an auto just because of back health issue.

Really? My 04 seems to run really high RPMs on the highway. At 80 it's around 3000. Maybe it's normal for smaller engined cars, the only other one I've driven for extended highway drives is the Suburban, which hardly gets over 2000.

I've had both manual & auto & theres good points to both, automatics seem to have the ability to transfer more torque from the wheels to the ground but are kind of shitty going down steep hills but they are generally easier on drive train, but manuals in 4 lo for traversing down hill can't be beat, a little more driver control thru the range of gears but in general are harder on drive train, especially "U" joints:cool:
