I like manual. Manuals are safer in ice and snow I think. The only good about automatic is its easier and no worry about clutch replacement.

I'm sure it could most folks can't drive a manual. I will buy a manual car of some sort thinking small and economical civic or corolla just to teach the kids. I won't have them coming up only knowing how to drive auto because that is not knowing how to drive in my book. Also they already know how to shift motorcycles so the next step should be easy.

I've had both manual and stick with first gen 4 cyl. Too much shifting in traffic with stick for me. Wonder if Toyota will ever put a CVT in the Tacoma? My wife had a Highlander Hybrid and now a 2010 Outback with CVT and they are nice and smooth.

CVTs sound great in theory, but my understanding was that in reality your transmission is basically operating with rubber bands. I don't know that they've had the best reliability, and I want the trans in my truck to be pretty tough. (Something that is lacking in the 6-speed, I'm aware. :()

Ew, CVTs are nasty. I really don't like them.

My man! Do a swap! There was a link to a write-up on another thread. It's been done.

I feel like I have more overall control of the truck with a manual transmission. I would like an automatic if I had a lot of stop and go traffic on my daily commute.

I hate autos except in some rare occasions they are good. If you are into rock crawling an auto is much better than riding a clutch. If you are into drag racing, an auto would be much easier on the truck than banging out gears and adding stress. I am not into either, but have done both in the past. I live in a hilly area. Autos are crap here because if I am going up a hill and then back down a hill the auto will shift into the wrong gear and I have to ride the brakes. I can shift the auto to compensate, but I don't like to do that without the clutches aid. Autos can't see the road like a person can, so it is a no brainer which one is better. Now on the other hand, there are people that shouldn't own a manual because they just aren't drivers. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are a driver and not into what I stated above, you should have a manual IMHO. If you live in Florida or some other flat state, I don't think it matters as much because driving isn't the same as in the hilly areas. You still will chew up brakes faster with an auto no matter what though. Like I said, autos can't see the road ahead, so they don't know what is coming.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
After driving a manual Tacoma for 3 years, I got an auto and never looked back. Daily driving a manual sucks. Trucks and SUV's are't much fun with manuals, sporty cars are what makes a manual fun to drive, driving one in a pickup truck just turns into a chore after awhile.

My 2011 Tacoma was a 2.7 4 cylinder, and those trucks NEED to be driven with a manual imo, the stick helps to maximize the whole length of the powerband. I can't imagine how sluggish the automatic 4 cylinder Tacomas must be. Yikes!
