I had surgery on my right shoulder a couple years ago, I had to shift and steer with my left arm. Not easy, kid of a PITA, but I did just fine. I find it much easier to multi task while driving since then.

Yes, it is. The Auto's are geared differently, more towards mileage.

I learned to drive with a manual, and still love them!!! I voted for auto because I drive city traffic, and it would suck shifting all the time in traffic.

For 4x4n', there's nothing better than a manual IMHO.

I live in and drive in a city (Washington, DC) that's notorious for it's traffic problems yet, I still prefer to own my 6 speed manual Tacoma and i have no trouble driving it. The manual trans Tacoma is a long way from being difficult to drive. Years ago my work vehicle was an '83 Chevy Suburban with a long throw notchy 3 speed manual trans and it was driven under the same conditions.

Anytime i drive an automatic it's a bore. The 6 speed gives me more control over the Tacoma, and it's one vehicle i actually enjoy driving. I don't eat while driving and drinking is timed between shifts. Having a cell phone up to my ear while driving is illegal and also very dangerous so, i don't do that even when driving an automatic. I also have bluetooth in case someone absolutely needs to call me in an emergency. I don't drink so there's no need for anyone else to drive me home.

My point is that, auto or manual, it has to be your preference. You'll be paying for it and you'll be driving it.

manual is the best!!! on open roads on weekends... but when you are stuck in LA traffic everyday for work, automatic will keep you sane..

honestly i've had manuals all my life and i just bought my 2010 tacoma 4 door with the auto for a few reasons, 1. hate traffic in a manual, 2. my wife can't drive a stick so it was the auto in case she needed it.

Only reason to get an auto is if you live or drive in City traffic everyday. I would shoot myself in traffic in MY truck! but on the Country Roads.....love it!!

Hey guys..I am a die hard fan of manuals but I bought my 09 taco auto for a few reasons. The wife cant drive stick, the manual in the taco is different than any manual I have driven before and because of the size. I was used to smaller cars and my 4runner so auto was the best choice for me because of parking and what not. I am sure glad I did it though because my boss just changed my schedule and put 8AM rush hr. My usual traffic drive of 35-45min is now an hr or 2 drive . Dont get me wrong though I will buy a maunual on the next car I get, but for now im lovin my auto sport truck;)!

i test drove both last week. I have a wrx and drive standard every day now which i love and was origionally going to buy a automatic tacoma but after dricing one i was instantly bored and could not stand the lag in the transmission. IMO the manual was much nicer, smoother and more fun to drive(not as fun as my wrx tho haha)

I like to shift, but I'm not a big fan of the clutch in the Tacoma, so I picked auto. Plus you get the added benefit of better fuel economy with the auto. I know that sounds strange, because in most vehicles it's the other way around. You may want to drive both and see what you like. Only your opinion really matters in the end.

I wanted a wrx until my girl's 4 runner shit the bed and she got a VW. I then needed something to pull my boat in the summer. I'm VERY happy with my Truck!

I started out with my first vehicle being a manual and loved it.. then got a auto and thought about wrecking it just to have an excuse to get another manual (sarcasm), then got this truck in 6 speed. Couldnt be happier. Probably won't get an auto until I retire on down the road.

Auto to me is like vacation...it's really relaxing and easy and I'm sitting there going "this is really nice." But I drive a manual, and a looked long and hard to find one with the 2.7. Sure it sucks in traffic, but it's better in snow, and you just have such better control over the truck if you can directly manage your RPMs all the time.

It's a dying skill. It's one of the few ways I'm really old-fashioned. But personally, I never felt you should be able to get a license without knowing how to drive a manual. If you have to drive someone to the hospital? Or escape from zombies? And you can't shift straight? You're f*cked.

How exactly is a manual " better in snow " than an auto ?

How is driving a manual trans a "skill?" Workman's drove many a manual but never thought of it as a skill. His 91 yr old grandma's volvo is a stick, and she got mad skills apparently.

Pretty sure this will be like 85% for the MT and 10% for the AT.
