So. I've been doing a ton of research, and lurking all the threads on all the other forums, I've decided this forum has the largest knowledge base.

I'm not new to Tacoma's, I had an '03 MT TRD Extended Cab that I loved, till it rolled over. I then got a 95 yota and turned it into a 1450 racer. Sold that, so now I want a '16 to daily drive to work, >20 miles, but there are no manual's around to test drive, let alone look at. So I'm asking you guys!

    My questions are this:

    1. Has toyota fixed the throwout bearing issue on the 16's? Is it the same gearbox as the gen 2's?
    2. Is there a cordless charger in the manual config? Or does the shifter take up the room?
    3. How is the manual to drive? The 16's seem like a bigger truck, not the little 95 I drove which felt like a go cart.

    4. Can you stream music from your phone to the head unit via bluetooth? Is it quick to setup every time you get in the truck?

    Thanks everyone?

    1. The gear box is completely different from 2nd gen. Feels like it has quick shift. Very happy with the improvement. Smooth and seamless.
    2. Yes if you get the premium tech packGe
    3. So far very pleased with performance. You might need to downshift to 5th on grades, but far less gear roaming compared to the automatic that I test drove.
    4. Yes. & Very easy to setup.

I don't think the throw are very long, much shorter than other manual trucks I've driven (but I haven't driven a 2nd gen manual to compare).

I just picked up a 4WD TRDOR manual the other night and it's amazing. Highly recommended!

Throws are tighter...different trans, clutch and engine. TRD Sport has Bluetooth streaming and QI charging without the tech or premium pkg. I have this in a 4x4 DCSB Sport with 2300 miles now

    YES.

I bought this without ever test driving any 2016, and I couldn't be happier. I used to drive a "big truck" (18-wheeler) so the long-ish throws in the transmission just remind me that I'm driving a truck, and it's awesome.

Does anyone know if they will be offering a long bed with the manual transmission option in the future?

We picked up an AC LB V6 manual last Wednesday, so LB plus manual is indeed available, albeit with AC.

Awesome, cool to hear you bought a manual without a test drive! I think I might be in the same boat!

The internet told me that if you try to drive a manual transmission in traffic you will lose your left foot to gangrene.
