Has anybody experienced this with their "leather" shift knob? I'm guessing hand sanitizer and / or sunscreen is the culprit.

Also, looking for suggestions for a decent quality replacement, or if anybody has an oem one lying around.

If you're under 36k miles, take that in and get it replaced for free. Ridiculous that it's happening to a 1 model year old truck

That’s exactly what’s happening to my wife’s 2018 4Runner. Last time I was at the dealership for service, I took a walk around the lot. Literally every used 4Runner on the lot had the same problem. Every single one was peeling on the top of the steering wheel. I didn’t notice it on any of the Tacomas however. Weird.

    Oh look, another mod....

Careful now, you'll offend all the die-hard MT fan boys.

M/T guys are worse than Vegans & Tesla owners put together. You never have to ask them IF they have a M/T, they always tell you.

I got a basically brand new one that I took off at about 300 miles on the truck and swapped it out. If you'd shoot a few bucks to cover shipping and all, it's yours.

My 2019 still looks new - would guess you might be right with sunscreen or hand sanitizer as I don't use much of either. Either that or a cleaning supply you may have wiped your knob with (gigitty).

Should be plenty out there in the marketplace if Toyota calls it abuse/wear and tear...but my suspicions say that they'll replace it since this is very atypical.

I identified the shift knob as a poor design from the get-go. One of the first things I did with my truck was to replace the knob with one from Core-Shifters. If you're doing a lot of shifting you want a hard, round surface, not a soft "leather."
