Do you have an update? Did you get your shift knob installed?

Ive had both the sickspeed ball and the TRD ball knobs (different applications though). TRD ball is a top quality and fits well. You may have some trouble lining it up to be 100%, but get it close and put some loctite blue on it and itll hold fine (Im not a fan of the jam nut method).

Sickspeed if they havent changed anything since a few years back, uses a double threaded adapter to fit the toyota. Gives them more flexibility for universal applications. Id be fine with this too, but there is more slop due to the ball screwing onto a tread which screws onto the lever. Loctite it works (I only had red at the time) and now the adapter threaded piece is practically welded onto my shift arm.

What's wrong with using a jam nut?

Can I somehow revive this thread?? I just ordered the TRD knob and I took out my console to lower the boot. Was pretty simple but I deff jerry-rigged the boot with electrical tape and rubber bands... not ideal but I couldn't see a better way to keep it in place.

While I was down there I saw that taking the entire knob/lever out wouldn't be too difficult and then putting something slimmer in. Anyone have any experience with this? I deff don't need to do this whatsoever but it seems like an easy swap that I can fix later and I'm unsure why the shift lever tapers out to around a full 1 inch in diameter. Don't worry people, I'm not about to start ripping apart my transmission lol. Its interesting though when that console comes off with such ease how simple the parts are underneath, makes me wish they sold a model that didn't have a center console, I've never liked that in trucks

I wish you had pictures to see what you're talking about. You think you can re-do the process with some pictures? That would be great!

IMG_0317.jpg IMG_0319.jpg Got this idea from a member from this forum. Rubber grommet from Home depot is another method. Also lost the original lock nut so had to get another.

Same grommet. Thanks for the info btw. Knob is from https://twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_46&products_id=104 twos r us. They custom make shift knobs for toyota mr2's. Awesome deal, great people to deal with and rocket fast shipping. The best part is that it's simple and high quality. Plus now you can actually get your fingers under the shift knob unlike the factory one.

Cant change the shifter alone? its simple. twist the chrome ring at the top of the dust boot a quarter turn or so. It will come loose and just slump a little bit. Then unscrew the shifter and remove. Slide grommet down to the boot and screw on new knob. There is nothing you can mess up.
