Sickspeed or trd ball? Sickspeed is half the price and looks the same..

I tried messaging them asking how heavy their cue ball knob was and they never got back to me. Is that the one you have

I’m sure Sickspeed will work fine. But seriously, it’s a $25 difference.

Just saw this. Nope, not any more! Traded for MT. Love it. Especially with the gray TRD ball knob.

Yeah! I saw that a bit after this. Congratulations!

For me, I wanted that gray ball, but without the lock nut.

Either way, the smooth surfaces make for slick shifting.

I ended up not using the lock nut. There was a rough spot at the bottom but simply filed it smooth. Much better than the stock knob.

Yeah I have the standard pool ball sized one from them. It's honestly pretty light, if memory serves its a bit lighter than a real pool ball, if that helps you.

I'd rather keep my stock if that's the case. I would only upgrade for some weight. The trd ball is nice but light too

I’m new to the forum group today and found this thread as I had changed out my shifter but it looked kinda corny as the leather boot just kinda dangled there and the shift pattern wasn’t lined up straight when the knob tightened. I went to Lowes and bought a neoprene grommet and some loctite. Now it almost looks like it came from the factory like this. So thanking the person that made these two suggestions! I had this shifter for 10 years in my FJ cruiser and kept it when I changed vehicles and its so funny as the color is almost a perfect match for my cement gray Tacoma!

So I bought a knob from hotrodshiftknob.com, installed it, did the grommet mod for the boot and wasn’t happy with it. Mainly it was the jam nut under the knob was a little annoying. So here is what I did, it requires destroying your factory knob though.

    Before:

    9C643901-B6FC-4594-B726-AF300CB3BC56.jpg

I cut the base of the old knob off, leaving about a 1/8” ring of plastic, sanded and epoxied the jam nut into it, and put it all back together.

Still not happy, there is an ugly gap. So the last step was to raid the medicine cabinet, and steal one of my wife’s hair elastics. She has a wide range of colors but I chose black.

    Much better

I know that this is a old thread, but it was very helpful doing the grommet trick. I am glad that this information was available I just installed my shift knob and I am happy with the way it looks. I went with the TWM Performance weighted shift knob. I had one previously on a S2000 and I loved it.

Your truck shifter has a thread size of 12mm x 1.25. I would think the FJ would have the same thread size, but I recommend you research that.
I do know that our Tacomas share the same thread size as the Hilux.471C98AD-9F79-4FF1-B409-91549486B6EC.jpg
