Thanks for the info. went to https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-trd-shift-knob-ptr263507003 and was hit with the "we need a vin number". searched used cars for sale and none of them had the shifter knob installed.

as heartbreaking as this sounds, I made the decision to let this go and go with a sickspeed one for $29 and FREE SHIPPING! https://www.sickspeed.com/products/...knob-6rul-10x1-25?_pos=5&_sid=6efbe122d&_ss=r

thanks everyone for such great advice including such prompt replies. I plan on doing a DYI video for my youtube channel and will post a video once it's uploaded and ready to view. standby for a link

The ball arrived today. Was hoping the engraved red was a tad darker, but looks good overall. If anyone is going this route

I have the cement colors cue ball knob as well. I found an easy way to make the boot leather stay a bit further down the shifter, and looks super clean, with no grommet, and keeps a bit of the shifter exposed below the knob. I’ll take a picture tomorrow and upload.

Here’s my cueball shifter with the leather boot tied down below the know - no grommet or chrome piece involved.

Couple of tie ties and some ducktape beneath the surface

Just installed this last night into my AG TRD Pro. There is enough pressure from the boot, to keep the chrome ring bouncing around, which is nice. The stock knob was just way too awkward.

It’s out of a Land Cruiser Prado

Nice ! Looks a lot like my 5 speed Hilux knob. You're going to love it.

Gotta love the simple look of these leather knobs! It was automatically a much better shifting feel. Did you just use an O-ring at the base of the knob?

I cut the lower, outside edge from a grommet, and placed that grommet inside the chrome ring; which, holds the boot up. Then, for aesthetic purposes, I placed an uncut larger grommet flush to the chrome ring. I placed an o ring in the groove of the upper grommet. It has proven to be very secure.

I'm not sure if my installation explanation is clear. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am surprised that more folks don't install these great, Toyota OEM leather knobs.

Here's another attempt at the written description:The boot collar is being held up by the following: 1. an electrical grommet with the bottom "ring" cut off. This grommet fits inside the inner lip of the boot collar.
    2. a slightly larger grommet, intact, which sits on top of the first grommet and grabs onto the outer lip of the boot collar.
    3. an o ring that sits inside the groove of the grommet and spans the outside edge of the grommet, which acts more as a trim piece that a functional retainer.
I don't have the dimensions of the above referenced parts. Acquired them at my local, friendly hardware store.

Ahh that makes sense to me.

I have seen people shaving off the bottom plastic from a stock knob, and affixing it to the new knob. I did notice there is a screw inside or the Pro knob, maybe you can remove the sleeve with force.

For now I’m just going to utilize what I have. In the past I have seen Energy Suspension ball joint caps, which may fit perfectly over the chrome ring..

I love the look and feel of these stock leather knobs.

The grommet method is really easy. No need to cut or otherwise alter the boot or the chrome ring. Do a search, you'll find more info including the size grommet you need.

I typed faster than I could think, I edited my post. There sure seems to be a bunch of different methods. As long as there is no excessive rattling from the shift knob collar, I’m content.

Glad I came across this thread. Trying to figure what to do with the boot. Thx for the rubber grommet idea. I think it will do for now.
