After I thought about it, I realized that the tall reverse gear kinda bugs me. Pretty much have to feather the clutch in reverse - otherwise you're backing up at what seems like over 5mph.

X2 , I wish that 2nd gear was just a little bit closer to 1st , but I still love driving this truck. Super fun to drive and shifts pretty nice!

yes but it sucks when the RPMs fall drastically and take you out of the powerband when you shift into 2nd.

trust me your clutch loves a ridiculously low reverse gear, especially when you have a fully loaded truck and you need to back up an extremely steep driveway on the side of a mountain...

i have no need to be doing ridiculous 20 mph J turns :D

No, you don't understand -- I want reverse to be lower than it is.

I wouldn't want auto 2.7l AC prerunner or 4x4 with oversize tires on it. Maybe reg cab but not AC. It's borderline now being lifted and bigger tires. Seems like the automatic would get worked over with that going on.

5 speed is awesome aside from the creaky clutch pedal which comes and goes. 1st to 2nd could be closer like others have said, but I shift at 15 MPH or so and it's pretty smooth. Reverse is sweet...super easy to chirp the tires. :D

Well Said. It is like a truck manual transmission should be, solid and simple.

So when a person answers the original post w/ his real life experiences which may not match yours, he's a troll?? 42 years of driving sticks. My 09's transmission whines, clunks and generally shifts poorly from 1st to second. 38K, Bought new.

Only complaint is my creaky clutch pedal, but I'll fix that this weekend.

    Works well.
It is not like my daughers 5sp VW wagon or my wifes 6sp VW sedan. But each of those have a turbo.

I try not to lug and be in too high of a gear. Since accerleration is moderate I have little need for particularly fast shifts. When going slow I try to keep it in the lowest gear I can, 2nd or 3rd dependig on how hard the motor is working.
