i have a 2013 I bought with 50 miles on it brand new from the dealer. I am at 101,000 miles still on the stock clutch and it seems to be just starting to slip when trying to pull something more than the tacoma. Stock driving around my truck on roads is fine, but if throw on a trailer or try to do stupid stuff in 4low i can smell it burn and feel it slip.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
Love mine with two caveats: can't stand the clutch feel with the accumulator/valve on there. Popular simple mod is to delete/bypass it for a more tactile clutch feel.

Also, gotta admit the 6speed gearing is a bit funky. First is a tad low but good for towing, but its a pretty steep jump to second. I feel those two ratios should be a bit closer together and took me a while to get used to. The rest aren't bad at all once you gain some speed. Reverse is geared rather high as well but never really been a problem for me personally.

All in all I'm happy with mine. 120k so far on the original clutch, no slipping as far as I can tell. Shifts smoothly and the 3rd-6th ratios seem to work well whether loaded, towing, or empty.

Have 120k miles on the ODO and still on the original clutch. I am waiting for it to go out as I've smoked it pulling trailers and teaching my kid how to drive it.

OTOH I just replaced the stock brake pads at 120k miles.

Well the 5spd is a r155 trans, and everything I've read about them says they're solid until 700 hp when they start leaking out the rear seal. But if you're not pushing 700 hp... it will definitely take a beating and keep working just fine.

I've driven both MT & auto's forever. First Taco I owned was a "98" 4 cyl. MT, loved it for appx. 10 yrs with no problems. At 65 yr. old I decided I was old & wore out enough to quit the shifting. I traded for a 2013 Taco 4 cyl. auto., one of the worst decisions I ever made. For a 4 cyl. definitely a MT.

I have a 14 6sp, I've owned since new. It has around 160,000km on it. The throwout bearing started to squeak around 100,000km. Still have the original clutch. The constant squeak from the throw throwout bearing is pretty annoying, but hasn't caused any issues.

My 2014 is just about to roll over 108,000 miles and I bought it when it was a year old with just under 12,000 miles on it. Stock clutch is still solid and doesn't give me any trouble. I rarely tow.
The only time I've regretted it was the few times I was stuck in traffic for extended periods.
If I ordered a new truck today, it would be a manual transmission. My wife's Corolla is a six speed manual and she likes it. She hates driving my truck because she thinks the clutch is too stiff.

My 2011 DCSB 6MT is at 314k miles now and is driving better than ever. Clutch lasted 273k before replacement.

Change the fluid regularly like said before.

Mods NEEDED to decrease the clunkiness when releasing the clutch are:
    • Delete the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV Delete)
    • Drill, tap, and install a grease zerk into the rear driveshaft slip joint and grease it with molybdenum grease.
    • proper U-Bolt torque

When I test drove my truck, the shift pattern was totally worn off so I had to Google how to get it into reverse lol

I can add a little to the bum knee post above. That's great advice for anyone with a bad shifting leg because Tacoma clutches shift like 60's dump trucks for sure. I have a 06 MT that I bought, well, back in 06. The clutch went out I think at about or a little after 100K miles. I also have a bad clutch leg so driving in long stop and go traffic, or driving in a big busy city will deff hurt.
I've been trying to find a 09ish automatic 4runner because of my leg issues. I've given up on automatic Tacomas because they're just too expensive for my preference.
Hope this helps in some way.

I have a 2015 TRD Pro 6mt double cab with 135,000 miles no issues (purchased new). Original brakes, clutch, and all fluids, and put new tires on @ 100k. I tow my 16' utility trailer and heavy stuff very often, and typically at max capacity of the truck. Just this week I decided to change the front brakes and change all the fluids. The only problem I've had, is a squeaky clutch pedal and the trans does have some very slight gear whine at highway speed. I do agree, first gear is dump truck gear, but its great for towing. As long as you understand it's a truck, not a sports car, they are solid transmissions.

WHAT KIND OF TIRES??? I'd love to have some 100K tires, mine definitely won't do near that much.
