No. It's how I feel about people or machines or whatever doing things for me.

The beauty is that we still have a choice in that. I can't even say how happy I am with mine, esp after a couple mods.

I am certain most AT folks feel the same.

ADM won't help with rev hang. It's the ECU that's doing it. It's an emissions thing.

As far as clunking/crunching/grinding/etc mine's actually been pretty good since new (1400 miles now). I get a slightly notchy feel SOMETIMES on 2nd and 3rd upshifts but that's very rare and I feel like it only happens when my shifts get lazy.

I have had my 2006 for 3 years and has 189K miles currently. It doesn't go into 3rd as smooth as the others. What has worked best for me is taking another half second from 2nd to Neutral to 3rd so the gears line up properly, and it works for my truck perfectly and smoothly. If I shift quickly or carelessly then the gears grind a minor amount. Not a big deal each time but multiply years and years and you'll have a problem. Hope yours sorts itself out

no time to read all the replies atm, sorry if repetitive...

1 - it will continue to break in and get a bit easier
2 - but you should look into a MT fluid change
3 - and make it a habit of practicing your aim. not a joke, actually practice aiming correctly for 3rd. I bet if you do that and the fluid you'll be gtg.

Clutch clicking, which is talked about in another question on here. Also my fifth gear sounds liked your third. It's very hard to go smoothly into it, plus there are whines and whistles in fifth gear, mostly when I let off the gas. I did the UCA hole fix, no idea what it could be.

My third is actually fine. My tranny been a bit notchy when new, but thats expected. Im quite pleased with it as of now, there are some things i would improve of course tho.

Whines and whistles in 5th? Sounds like the diff whine, no? Is it at speeds between 60-65?

I have this same issue on mine (with all of like 50 miles now). Annoying but like others hope it corrects a bit. I am having to learn to shift this differently than my VW GTI, not surprisingly. Surprisingly, on the GTI the shifting got less smooth after 10K miles. I always suspected the dealer, because every time I got it back something was off, but that's a different story.

    What is the ADM?

I was paying a bit closer attention to this today, and in my small sampling size of about 5 miles anyway, I noticed that if I shift from 2nd to 3rd with the RPM at least 3K, there is no grinding. I tend to shift about 2.5K RPM from 2nd to 3rd normally in this truck so far, for gas mileage purposes I suppose. But the higher RPM made a real difference in the smoothness of the shift--no more grinding--so I'll make it a habit of shifting at the higher RPM. (Of course, in my GTI I usually shifted well above 3K :D.) There is no grinding between other gears regardless of the RPM when I shift.

Someone told me that TW is only 2% of Tacoma owners and... blah, blah, denial, blah, blah, mine is perfect.... thus lies damn lies.

OP, mine did the same thing off the lot, especially at low RPM 2-3 shifts. It's gotten better now, but I've also learned to give a special little pause on regular around-town driving for that shift. High RPM and fast rowing such as passing or getting on the highway is butter though.

Hopefully you can replicate it on command. When these issues are intermittent, it's a bitch to resolve.

Start documenting all your issues with the clutch. If something goes wrong, they will look to point to abuse, even if the failure happens way before warranty.

Make them document when you take it in, even if they fail to replicate, etc

Yep. That's the button that people use when they don't want to hear anything that goes against their logic of thinking, even though their logic is flawed. It keeps them from hearing truths that they're unwilling to accept, and makes them feel safe in their dark corner of ignorance.
