What if I told you that changing your driving style isn't really necessary if the setup is "tweaked" a bit.. No, you still won't be able to pull of a super fast 1-2, but hey.. it's a truck after all. The accumulator alone adds a lot of "buffering" between your left foot and the slave cylinder.

Did you drive MT trucks before? If you coming from driving MT cars only, yes it requires more attention to be smooth on the taco.

I had 3 MT trucks (mazda, ford, toyota) and all of them drove similar. 1-2nd is always interesting, just gotta find a way that works for each specific truck. The rest of gears are usually piece of cake. Accumulator does not help as well.

Like others have stated, to shift 1-2 smooth, you gotta bring first up to 3500, then it falls into place nicely. The rest of gears are easy.

    Good luck man.

    That is an interesting take.

For me, there is always that high alert stage when I get into any new-to-me MT. I never have lingering issues and would generally walk away saying that it drives like an MT. Sure a Miata is going to be different than a truck, but they're all engaging, fun, and not difficult to drive. The weird part with the Taco was that on the pre-TSB tune, I was on high alert for about 9mo. There were no relaxed shifts if I wanted it smooth. The TSB tune definitely fixed it and made it feel like any other MT. The ADM just made the experience better.

OVT fixed the holes in the TSB tune and expanded the range of the engine. It now feels like a normal V6 for me.

Agree/all except the 1-2 at 3500. I can get a smooth shift below that, but I'm tuned and running a modified accumulator. When there's no delay in the clutch hydraulic circuit and the throttle is following your inputs more precisely, it's not difficult at all.

I have 18, so i guess i didnt have the pre TSB ECU calibration. When first picked it up, i had no complaints, besides the throttle response and vague clutch feel. No "falling flat on its face" or hesitation like a lot of members complained about.

About 6 months ago i went to dealer to do the latest ECU calibration. Did not really notice a difference. The biggest difference was doing the ADM.

Im happy with how it drives now, have no complains really and im really anal when it comes to my vehicles.

If i only bring up the first to 2.5-3k, i gotta shift much quicker, its doable, but seems like it goes in nicer at about 3300-3500. Im on stock tune.

There have been some with 2016s, 2017s, and 2018s that have said that about the TSB tune. I kinda feel bad there after the work involved arguing with the dealers or meeting up with folks and such.

Mine is still a TW unicorn because it has always worked better than is generally posted around here. No hesitations, dead pedals, or any of that. Hell, I installed the bad Beta (21150) just to feel what a dead pedal was. For me, it was a total lack of bottom end and super attentive shifting on the original tune.

Yea, i feel like i got lucky with my 18. No issues whatsoever(knock on wood) No vibrations, howling, werid noises etc.
Just had some weird issue with leather on passenger seat and some minor recalls.

Its quick, fun as hell to drive and gets good mpgs. What else can you ask for?

Exactly. With some easy mods, it has been what I wanted from it and much more. Like yesterday and today, I would have been pissed if I didn't ride to work. With the Taco, I'm happy as a clam.
