Sarcasm and the internet don't go so well together. Most of it is friendly ribbing because so many posts here bitch about the AT shift patterns while the only real complaint MT owners have is that Toyota neglects us with little QoL things like flash updates.

Except that everyone bitched about how CVTs don't shift and now manufacturers are putting in artificial shift points so people get the feel back. :der:

    Nailed it!

Our Forester does not in the default mode and sport modes. But, it will give you six 'gears' if you mess with the paddles. In the sport# (sport sharp) mode, it simulates eight 'gears,' holds them when playing but not using the paddles, and allows near redline downshifts with the paddles. Still, it kills and makes boring what is otherwise a rocking engine and AWD system.

assuming yours in the XT, the biggest thing they’ve attributed to premature CVT failure is shifting from drive to reverse or vise versa. Lots of people don’t come to a complete stop when doing it, and it strains the system. That’s what Subaru engineers were telling me about mine, though they don’t want their shortfalls to go public. My 3.6r outback had the same high torque CVT but mine ended up failing do to an internal actuator failing along with an electrical issue. I’ve also noticed the CVTs limit the AWD system and cut power, even with the higher powered 3.6 and 2.0 turbos, which is a shame. Other companies even now have sadly caught up to Subaru and still implemented standard automatics transmissions.

But you have a Pinz no? :D
I feel like I’ve seen that one in the picture pop up on AZ Craigslist ads. At least a red one that I recall.

    That great info. Thanks!

Yes. We have an XT. With the excellent power and torque curves of this motor, a slushbox 6spd would be all that it would need.

Lol, that 04B13 "release" was true stealth. You get a calibration update when a new M/Y is introduced mofos!

I would add a retarded reverse ratio, inconsistent throttle response (mostly during rev match), and accumulator induced engagement delay to your list.

Still, it's a short one compared to the A/T complaints.

Man, this in one of the smoothest MT's I have driven and owned. Once it a while I get a rough shift, but that is me the driver :burnrubber:

Ya, I sold the red one and got a green 6 x 6. That pretty much gives me my manual trans fun.

I feel lucky....my 3rd gen is the smoothest shifting vehicle I've ever driven. I do double clutch down shift...not because I need to get it in gear, but just for the silky smooth way the stick gets sucked into the next gear. Heaven is to heel toe double clutch downshift sequentially from 6th to 2nd.

I've been daily driving manual transmissions for 30+ years. I've got the OV Tune, did the accumulator delete and it's...better. The main thing I've had to get used to is winding it up higher before I shift. It makes all the difference.

Glad to see I'm not the only one doing this. Especially 1st to 2nd, but also other shifts aren't very smooth if not done at higher RPMs.

Also I've noticed the truck doesn't like going at parking lot speeds in 2nd gear. I end up going to 1st. With my '95 F150, if the truck was rolling 2nd gear was a good place to be.

I roll parking lots in 2nd all the time, but my truck is tuned which makes a huge difference. I never did it on the stock tune

It's fine, I just don't have any power at the low end of 2nd gear. I feel like I have to be going ~15mph to have any power in 2nd gear.

This was my experience as well. Im all stock. The rev hang is significant from 1-2.

I used 2000 RPM as a shifting reference point when first adjusting to this MT. 2000 RPM is approximately 10mph in 1st, 20mph in 2nd, 30mph in 3rd, etc. As time went on, I got a better feel for when to shift at other RPMs.

This truck is good with skipping gears too, I usually skip 4th or 5th gear or sometimes both.

Unplugging the ACIS fixed all of that for me. I took off from a stop in 3rd yesterday (on accident) it was downhill of course, when i realized my mistake i just went with it.

I can roll in second gear at whatever speed now and have no issue. But most importantly it doesn't jerk or lunge anymore.

My 1st to second shift is butter now. No matter the rpm. All shifts are butter now.

And i shift 2nd to 6th all the time
