Guess I can try go down there or to another dealership and have it try and stutter and stumble around and hope that convinces them to plug it in and check it out. Crazy thing is that I was already in there for other service last time making it marginal effort and work for them to do as opposed to being a special trip just for that.

by the way, the tune itself is just half the deal with how it runs, etc. the guys who have reworked their exhausts, for example, have very different experiences from those who run stock or a similar CBE on the same files. spend some time reading up, but in your case I'm certain the TSB is where to start and you may not feel you need to go beyond that.

The service manager actually called me one day about 6 months ago, wanted to know if they could do anything for me, I mentioned the TSB and he told me to stop in sometime and they will take care of it.

Can you elaborate as to why it runs so much better than stock?

That is a lot of effort to me. I was pretty certain that my dealer would have done the update using the original revision if I asked them. But, if there is one thing that I hate hearing is a straight up 'No' without looking at the problem. I didn't want to risk the good relationship with this simple thing.

you mean act like i know and make a bunch of theories up? I'll leave that to the other half of TW.

but it does appear that removing excess flow restriction in the exhaust changes the performance significantly, probably more than most motors.

Surprisingly Toyota offered it to me, i didnt even have to ask for it. After it was done, I noticed very slight difference, shifts felt just a bit smoother. Maybe all in my head tho, my truck drove fine when i picked it up from dealer.

That door swings both ways on tarnishing a relationship for sure. I just don't understand if an update exists than what is the issue with doing it? I'm not asking them to throw an AT update on there and hope it works or some other bootleg solution to something. I'm not sure they know what they are looking for issues wise to know if it warrants the update or not.

there are certainly endless liability stories you'd hear if you were in the dealership game. and you'd probably stiffen up and say no by habit, too... maybe.

For sure but if there was an issue with the update you would hear people on here screaming from the mountain tops to no end. Ironically if there is a stumbling issue I think its actually higher liability by flat-out saying not to the update/ not doing it.

that requires dealers making efforts to be in touch with owners' experiences. so I'm guessing that answers the question regarding why dealers are not in the loop. they are not trying to be. anyway...

And the MT crowds are often the redhead step children in this dynamic.

Everyone is different, TW makes me believe that every Taco is different also, and there were some folks that didn't feel a big change with the TSB tunes. Similar stuff with OVT. There are even a few who felt that it made things worse.

    Life is fun like that.

Although, I did get my eyes opened when I drove someone else's MT Taco that ended up getting lemoned. It drove like a completely different vehicle and was not enjoyable at all.

The funny part is that if they try to install the wrong software, it won't load. There are two CUW files attached in the MT Update thread. 33 and 38, or something like that. The one with the smaller number applies to the 2016s and 2017s while the larger applies to the 2018s. But, folks just clicked on either. If it didn't load, they just used the other. With TSB software, if it is incompatible it won't install.
