    Hey!
    2011 SR5 here. Manual trans.
Let me start by stipulating that I have 218k miles so I know this is a huge factor, but...
Recently, about a week ago, I started experiencing some very odd trans behavior.
From dead stop, I take off and 1st gear will get me to about 15mph. Shift to 2nd, fine. 3rd, ok. 4th and 5th gears... no. It will shift into gear, BUT if I depress the accelerator all the way, or even 1/2-3/4, the engine will want to rev over 3-4K rpm. Yet it will still increase in speed. Just extremely slowly. Also I’m not able to feel 4th and 5th gear hit when I shift. I don’t know if my trans is slipping or what. Also, my speedometer is now inaccurate. As I shift between gears, it will continue to rise. By the time I hit 3rd, it’s showing 40-45 mph. About 10mph faster than I’m traveling. I know that’s probably my vehicle speed sensor. But would that have anything to do with my transmission acting weird? They happened at the same time.
Time for a trans fluid change? Lol
    Thx for any suggestions.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping, probably time for a new clutch.

Ok that would make sense. Slipping clutch. Every now and again, it will be difficult to shift into 1st. Like it’s locked up. Quick shift to 2nd then back to first is usually the answer.
    Thanks

The problem with driving Toyota’s into the ground is you never get shiny new cars. The fucking things last 25 years.

My very first vehicle at 16 y/o was an old Toyota pickup. Before they had names haha
It was factory white and primer grey. 4spd manual trans 4cyl. 2.4L. lol
I think those old ones got, at most 103HP?
Rusted through in 3 spots and ran on 14” rims like a champ!

Also... since I’m replacing the clutch, is it recommended to replace the flywheel as well? Or is that necessary?

as stated you need a clutch.

as far as the flywheel, i would have it re-cut for sure, or resurface it. if its just your daily driver good chance its not warped. i would weigh the price. youll need a new throw out bearing as well.

would also check the teeth where the starter engages...if thats messed up or worn def replace the whole thing. if time is a constraint just do yourself a favor and put the new flywheel in anyway. when your in that deep best to replace anything major. its not the money that is the hassle, its the time and effort in getting to it all!

Will do! Time is of no concern. I’ll just spring for the whole thing and save myself some headaches later on then.
Thank you all for the replies.

I can work a mechanical engine up and down but when it comes to transmission, clutch and anything related, I’m lost.
