Quick question that I can't seem to find an answer to: what's the R150F weigh, for the purposes of dropping it out of the truck for a clutch job?

Chilton manual says to drop it out with the transfer case still mated, but drained of fluid. That all makes sense. Anyone got a ballpark figure for what the transmission, bellhousing, and transfer case combo is going to weigh in this situation?

Just trying to figure out if I am going to need a trans jack for this job. Looks like a big sucker. Last trans I dropped was the Volvo M40, size of a shoebox, weighed maybe 30 lbs. Never messed with anything this large before.

    Thanks!

Not something you want to do without some sort of Jack

Is this going to be on a lift or on the floor ??

I have never had a transmission jack that would work just the odd combination of the Trans and Transfer case

Keep saying I am going to build an adapter but after it is back in I forget

Well I have a floor jack, but the round plate isn't much support. If it's as heavy as it looks, I don't want to try and balance it on a floor jack. Ideally I'd ratchet-strap it to a cradle, but I don't have one handy. Anyways, knowing how much it's going to weigh will help me figure out what to do.

I'm definitely not going to try and bench-press it.

I put a piece of square tubing across the hole in the floor then put a 1" ratchet strap around that. Holding things.

The best is 3 people one on each side one to pull the jack back

Know as it comes out of the splines it will spin toward the front drive shaft output

I have done it alone never again

Did my clutch about 600 miles ago, we didn't drain fluid and dropped the trans with the t case still attached. We were spoiled though, had it on a lift with a trans jack under it. It wouldn't balance right so we ratchet strapped it so it would stay still, it was very tail heavy.
Just make sure when you're putting the strap over it that you don't pinch any wires or connectors on top of the tranny.
Also, I'm sure your chilton will tell you this, but we couldn't get the tranny to slide out until we took the dust cover off the front, only 4 bolts holding it on, but they were a PITA.
Not a super hard job over all though, just time consuming

Appreciate the help. I've decided I'm going to make an adapter for my jack out of plate steel. I'll let you know how it goes ... if it works well I'll post the dimensions and so forth. Y'all have saved me the pain of dropping the thing on the ground (or myself) trying to half-ass it.
