I test drove a 14 with 40k on it and I don't know what it was but I like the clutch on the 16 much better, shifter as well. I'm loving my 2016. I know they both have the R155F so I don't know why I felt there was a difference in the 14 that I didn't like. I was initially trying to buy a 2nd gen but I just didn't like it. Test drove the 3rd gen, fell in love and bought one.

I really would like to know if the manual makes the 16' feel better off the line and also what mpgs people are averaging with those real world vs the auto. 6cyl preferred too...

2016 Tacoma Double Cab TRD OR with a 6 speed here... I had a 06 Tacoma Access Cab, TRD Sport 6 speed that I sold in 08 so its been a while since I drove a 2nd gen but the 16 feels smoother but comparable. I've only got 1 tank through it but I seem to be averaging around 19mpg.

I just got my 2016 TRD Sport 6MT (V6) today, I can't compare it to other years as I haven't driven them, but I really enjoy it. I don't feel what others are complaining about with being sluggish off the line and lack of torque with the automatic, and I come from a modified Subaru WRX. It drives great, clutch feels great and is easy, the shifter is good (very long for me compared to other vehicles, but it is a truck, after all). After hearing how much the automatic likes to shift constantly, I'm even happier I chose the manual.. It's also all I've ever driven and I was not at all ready to go to an automatic.

Invoice plus they're BS handling fee and "Toyota Advertising Fee" ... Never seen that before and I couldn't get them to budge on it.
So I guess not invoice haha... But I'm happy with the purchase and got 1k more out of my trade then I was expecting so its a wash for me

Guess I should add; I drove the same truck in an Auto and Manual. There is no way I would ever buy an auto but I wanted to drive the new gen and at the time they didn't have any manuals. The manual drives WAY better...

I test drive an auto, it wasn't bad but the manual is a lot funner. Seems like autos are always trying to shift up which may make it feel slower. My mpg currently is terrible as I'm in the process of breaking in the engine but the manual feels faster simply because the car reacts quicker to the inputs you give it. Maybe it's psychological.

So in the exact same models, is the manual less expensive than the auto? Does it have the exact same towing specs?

The manual is cheaper... not sure about the towing specs but I believe they're the same.

I've only had mine for a day, It's the 5spd 4-banger, and all my previous trucks were junker rangers, but...

The gas pedal is soft. The clutch only bites at the mid-top of the pedal. First gear seems to run a bit short, but 2nd and onward feel right. This will take some getting used to. And I absolutely hate the automatic hill-assist :p

I love the clutch feel on it, not too stiff or soft.
