Yep, over the past couple days I gave 2nd gear slow speed a try, nope. My truck definitely doesn't like 8 mph and below in 2nd. Starts shuttering at 8 mph, I'll stick with 1st gear at low speeds.

Just an update on my previous comment. This "issue" has completely worked itself out after the first thousand miles. Truck is a dream. Highly recommend the MT.

These trucks seem to have a taller first gear then anything I have driven before. I came from driving a 2012 mustang GT 6mt and before that I had an 01 ranger that had the 3.0 V6 with a 5MT, and it seems like I can stay in first way longer in my taco and it never gets jumpy like my car or truck did. I also notice that the truck seems to be much happier in a gear lower then my mind says I should be in. Obviously the torque curve in the trucks seems to be set create power at the top of the RPM range.

Final drive is 17.1:1 in first gear with the V6. I wouldn't exactly call that a tall gear ratio. I do agree that it's smooth.

Must be the Third gens? I feel like my 1st gear is super short and I can gun it up to about 20ish before its screaming for a shift. Great take offs though.

I think 3rd generation is a little lower actually. It launches hard.

But the 3rd generation has 4.3:1 gears. Look at the final drive ratios.

Is everyone talking past each other? 3rd gen is shorter down low (1st gear) and taller up high with more overdrive (6th gear).

I am about to buy a sport access cab m/t, but there is a post with the transmission getting stuck in gear and etc who here with the 3rd gen has had these problems I do not want to by a new truck that a have wanted for years just the of get it, and it be in the shop all the time when it is new not 20,000 miles in...lol I do not want to buy a new truck that is broken right off the assembly line. Or a phone number that will give me true info on it'd fixed since the may models rolled out . Or wait for a 2017 thanks

I read the "getting stuck in gear" thread and it definitely appears to be an anomaly.

On these forums you are likely going to see a disproportionate amount of "issue" threads since I don't think too many people feel the need to post about how everything in their truck just works.

I will say my 2016 MT has been wonderful so far - much better than the manual in my previous 2012. I wouldn't be any more worried about this vehicle being "broken" off the assembly line than any other.

My suggestion is to take all the negativity with a grain of salt and just test drive a 2016 for yourself.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I'm with Carson_NC... My 2016 has been great and is a impressive little tow pig for the size truck it is. I have 7000 miles on the clock and about 8-900 of that is towing 3500-5500 lbs. The only issues I have are the coke bottle noise on the lower control arms and someone at the factory scratched the windshield just above the instrument cluster 3 tiny scratches. The transmission is however one of the best I have ever driven. The only changes I would make to it would be a heavier detent in for reverse and a deeper first gear. I have been driving a 1 ton dodge for the last 15 years before I got the Tacoma so I am just accustomed to a "compound low" first gear.

Every manufacturer is going to have some defects and glitches in there production. Some times they knock it out of the park with a certain product other times they get a solid base hit every once in a while they strike out. That is life. These trucks come with a good warranty and I have not ever had any issues getting Toyota to stand behind their products. Pound for pound the 2016 is a solid hit in my opinion. Love the truck fits me and my uses well.

I called burnville toyota to check if my truck got delivered today as scheduled.

It's still in freight status and now has an ETA of june 24-29.

    Hmmm...one more week.

Thanks for replies, I am going to wait for the 2017 I guess already told the dealer. One my credit will be better and any of the issues should be fixed and etc and that concrete color might be on the non-pro trucks. Lmao I have shitty luck so I would end up one with the issues...

I would not count on "all the issues being fixed". Toyota is notorious about not fixing shit for years at a time. Maybe some of the super big safety issues, but alot of the complaints I glance at on the home page seem like whining about a new truck with stuff that wasn't expected vs an actual issue
