Well yet another 6 hour one way road trip with the truck loaded heavy for camping. 1500 lbs with passengers, gear and 50 gallons of fresh water. Transmission still shifts like butter and got great fuel mileage for the load I was hauling in the bed 20.5 mpg on let trip down and 21.7 mpg on the trip back 70 mph all the way. Still loving this truck and no issues as of yet. 8k and counting on the clock. image.jpg

I had a really bad squeaky (more like creaky) clutch on my '04 Tacoma, 5 speed manual. Sounded like a wooden castle door opening every time I pressed it. A friend had the same issue on his '04 and got rid of it by spraying a lubricant called Tri Flo Lubricant (can get it at any hardware store). He let me use it on a wheeling trip we were on last month. Just sprayed a little bit of it on the spring that's behind the clutch pedal and surrounding area, creaky sound disappeared. Hasn't been back since.

It's a temp fix, he says he needs to re-apply it ever 10k miles or so but it's much easier than taking apart the clutch pedal assembly to make it go away.

Does anyone know which models have the manual transmission option?

Super excited my 2016 Sr Access Cab 4x4 5 Speed M/T comes in in a few days!! I've already ordered a new delrin shift knob with a pattern on it. My question is, has anybody added a shifter extension to their manual taco? I want to get some ideas on how it would be. I was thinking about a 4" bent stainless steel one! Anybody do something like this?

The shifter is in a really comfortable spot in the truck I really don't think you will need it. Just my 2 cents.

Like those above me already said, the shifter is already in a pretty comfortable position. If anything it took me a bit to get used to how far away 5th gear can feel (fine now after week 2); which could possibly be worse with an extension.

I looked into a few aftermarket shift knob options and you should know that the boot on the new Taco is held up by the knob itself (at least on the 6 speeds). You'll need to find a way to secure it with aftermarket knobs.

Thanks! I'll have to look into buying a shifter boot adapter/retainer, then. I had no idea. But yes, 5th gear seemed very far away from my on a test drive and I am trying to figure out a way to bring the knob closer to me. (My last two cars were an STI and a BMW). A bent extension I thought would do the trick. But I can see how it would make it worse. I'll just have to get used to it haha!

No need to buy an adapter look in this thread in the early pages, I explain how I secured mine further down the shaft. This info is also in my build thread in the third gen builds.

I just bought a large rubber grommet and slid it down the shaft. Holds it all in place and looks fine.20160707_124451.jpg

I prefer the broke in look. I should post a picture of my brush scratches in the paint....Most on this site would cringe if they saw them. I bought this truck to use it. A little dirt, a few scratches, and a dent or two (inevitably coming) never bothered me.
