Interesting the OR doesn't have Hill Start Assist.

We're gearing up to order a DCSB 6MT. I was thinking OR for the e-locker, but reality is I am mostly a roadtrip/highway guy and I'd rather have the HSA. Plus I'm guessing the Sport is quieter on road, at least with the stock Toyos.

I'm surprised its actually not included on the OR models, I thought it was. You'd think it would be a massive help for the truck in any off-road/on-road hill condition. Oh well, just gonna have to get a PA speaker pointed out the back of my truck to yell at anyone that pulls right up to my bumper at a stop or in traffic on a hill.

no PA required, just an aftermarket solid rear bumper should do.

It's really not that hard to get used to. It doesn't take long to get used to where the clutch bites, so if you're on an incline, foot on brake, release clutch to where it starts to bite, foot to gas and you won't roll back too far, if at all, during the transfer of your foot from the brake to the gas. If this doesn't work for people just a couple clicks on the handbrake and you're good until you start rolling forward.

If you had to park it on a steep hill in San Francisco or something every day where people are bumper to bumper in front and back of you that's another story. But for every day driving it's no big deal.

EDIT: and of course I just looked at your location and it says SF, CA

Ha ha no worries. Still trying to decide between Sport and OR so this helps. Appreciate your input.

I have a sport with the HSA/MT and I like it. That said you should test drive both models even if it's not MT, because of the difference in the suspension. The sport has a stiffer setup more suitable for cornering / two lane driving . I haven't driven an off road model, but I hear it's a softer ride. HTH

I've test driven 3 (!) Sports and honestly coming from a Gen1 fleet truck, that stiff suspension is very appealing.

I do remember the OR I tested being softer - not in a bad way. I felt the SR/SR5 were way too soft.

So I tried using the WD40 Silicone spray, instead of just plain WD40. Seems to be working. I spun the rod a couple times. It only spins 1/3 (or less) of the way around, but did it back and forth a few times. No squeaks or creaks. Fingers crossed!

I don't care if an auto can shift faster, pull more, or dig itself out of the sand (3rd gen's crawl ctrl). When you automate everything, you loose your connection to your vehicle. When you drive a manual, you are part of it. Sounds sappy and shit, but it is what it is. Manuals are just more fun. I would take a manual Gremlin over an automatic ZR-1 any day.

I will say this, though: Trying to maneuver a trailer backwards up an incline in a manual makes for a great clutch roast.

Or just a loaded truck on gravel. One of my few complaints is the high reverse gear.

    Mostly stuff I built.
That's why I'm waiting on warranty to go out so I can put a twin-stick FJ (auto case with manual input shaft) case in mine. Hopefully all the parts interchange like they did on the second gen. If not I am not against having custom parts made. Either way I'll figure out a way to have a manually shifted transfer case in mine before it is all said and done. 2wd low backs a trailer good.
